Canadian Citizens Joining British Army? Is it even Possible
I know this may be very bazzar question to ask, and I appologize profusely for asking if anyone is offended, but I heard through rumors that it is possible for Canadians becoming British Army soldier or an officer?. How in the world is that possible, if it is? Is it true that Canadians too can get their education paid for just like other British can, or is it the same as being an American, or a Japanese? So you can technically have a Canadian British SAS?
Dude, it is totally possible. And yes you can go for the SAS, but try and walk before you run and all that good shit. I see you're up in Edinburgh, just pop in to a recruiting center and they'll start the process. I've been in for about 20 months now. I am as Canadian as they come, however it was easier for me because I have a British Passport. Good luck dude, whereabouts in the motherland are you from? Cheers, Kyle.
The SAS are drawn from all branches of the Armed Forces, but you will need to have a number of years in the Army before you can apply for the SAS. If you are keen on joining the SAS try starting of in the Parachute Regiment as the most of the SAS come from this unit, also 1 Para is attached to the SAS these days to cover some of their work.

I have no british passport. I think it will be too hard for me as I am just Canadian. I was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. So in the armed forces, do you then become also british, or do you stay Canadian? I just hope I don't get treason or something coming home one day.Fow22 wrote:Dude, it is totally possible. MSB: As said above, try to learn to walk before you try to run. Yes you can get in the Brit Army as a Cdn, you just need a permanent address in the UK for the application process. While mercenary work by a Canadian citizen is a crimial offense in Canada, joining a Commonwealth army is not. You'll be fine. Again, as said above, try the Paras first. If you can't hack that, you'll know the SF is not for you. Good luck.mediumsoftbaby wrote:I have no british passport. I think it will be too hard for me as I am just Canadian. Nice one dude, Vancouver is sweet. I was out there last night for a Christmas party at the Royal on Granville. I'm from Abbotsford, its about an hour east of Van City. The process is quite easy for joining the Army, just so you know though, you will not be given free travel back to Canada on your leave. The process is real easy man, pretty tough to fail. In comparison to the marathon process for joining the CF it is real quick. The CF has changed a lot in the last few years as well man, so you may want to check it out. Anyway dude, best of luck.

Cdn joining the British Army
Fow22,
I applied in March 2004 to the Communication Reserve and my vetting is still going on. Since vetting began I've changed careers and had a son and I'm beginning to lose interest.
Maybe the grand visionary strategy is to make applying to the Communication Reserve so untenable that recruits are more likely to give up on the Reserve and join the Regulars.
How is the Light Infantry by the way, or is it The Rifles? Bumped into Officers Campbell or Kelly recently?
So sad to see British regiments going the way of the Canadian regiments after unification. Before you know it it will be 1st-38th Battalion, the Royal British Regiment plus 1st-5th Battalion, the Guards Regiment.
Are you still in Abbotsford? When do you return to the UK? I was in Cornwall from 22 Dec-1 Jan. My Dad grew up in Chilliwack.
Happy New Year,

Never ceases to amaze me just how slow the Canadian Recruiting can go, you'd think Chretien was still in office. Then the media reports that numbers are so low, they'll let you join the Regulars before you've passed medical! Later the media said sailors and airmen might have to fight in Afghanistan to prevent second and third tours by the infantry! In comparison to the marathon process for joining the CF it is real quick. df2, the LI is alright at times I guess. I have pretty much lost all interest at the moment, I am not very happy about going back, especially after having over a month off at home. I am going to try and put in for PF selection but we'll see what my unit has to say about that. I just arrived in the UK today, I stay in London tonight then tomorrow I head back to Paderborn. Campbell was my platoon commander in depot, he was a pretty good guy. He is out now though, I recognize the name Kelly, but I think he must be in another company. Happy New Year to you as well.
