RAF Gunner Hostility
Flicking through the site and I’ve noticed others giving RAF Gunners a lot of stick.
Why is this? Is it just banter or is it more than this?
I’ve noticed it’s mostly the infantry slagging the reg off, I believe the reg is trained up to a infantry standard but I’ve noticed them saying that the reg would be s**t in the field.
i understand the role of the reg is to defend aircraft, personnel and bases from ground attack.
Or is it just the fact they don't have a clue what they do?
Also noticed some Para advising not to go RAF Gunner, telling them to go Para or RM???
Now i see the reg being elite within the RAF but not up to the standards of these, I’m sure they don't have to be??
your comments and views plz
cheers

People who slag the corps off are those that don't understand it and fear it! The RAF Regt's role is pro active aggresiv defense of all RAF assets, people seem to think this means guarding an airfield, forgetting that crab air does actually get around off the APOD every now and again, but understated is the way forward. Don't underestimate the soldiering capabilities of troops on field squadrons, the regiment is pioneering DCC at the minute, i'd put rock up against perce anyday.

I think it's only because the RAF Regiment "don't do much" (they say), when actually they do. They've been on many operations, protecting small villages, etc and most of all- going around the perimeter of a huge airfield stopping little insurgents trying to blow a hole in the fence.
The reason you may be told to become a Para is only because they're always used and see plenty of action. Here's my diagnosis for you:
YOU WANT A FIGHT?
Be a Para.
Simple really. LOL
That's an example. I'm not asking you for one. That's just not my style. When I fight, it is with a sword or a pistol. The true way of the gentlemen.

Eventually they are but they have had trouble getting perce all trained up to standard quick enough to take over by the time they wanted. Rapier guys are gonna re enforce the field sqns as they're undermanned with 15 going from rapier to field role. 16 has been disbanded, 26 is still live and not sure about 37 sqn.

Is this a money situation?
I see the gov getting rid of certain areas in all three services, I find this very disheartening and how they expect us to win these situations if they want to throw everything out the window.
E.g. I see the gov want hold back Para jumps for four year or so, ludicrous. I suppose 2nd sq will be affected by this too.
What’s next, RAF can't fly no more, the navy have to settle with rubber dingys (or maybe a couple planks of wood) and sorry lads can't fire your SA80 no more, you'll have to settle with bayonets....cheers pal.
I know I shouldn't write this stuff on here but its stuff like this, what makes think that I might as well stay at Tesco. At least it’s a stable job and they give us plenty of knifes to open boxes with?????

Everyone seems to rip it out of the RAF Regiment, just to boost their own ego's. It's not supposed to be taken seriously, but to be honest, it gets damned well annoying when it spreads to almost every thread!
To be honest, they're cutting down on the forces it seems (although, if you go on the RAF website, it's desperate of all sorts of people? Odd huh?) - and yes, to a certain extent Tesco does sound a little more stable - but I'd go mad if I spent the rest of my life opening boxes with a small red knife, and being nice to the general public.

II sqn. have a back log of people needing jumps anyway so I have been told. But the regiment is still gonna be able to get certain people on jumps i.e. those in the SFSG and those in JNBCR both are very high priority because of their role in supporting SF. The armed forces have been shat on since forever, I'm sure roman legionarres were dripping about having a crappy sword or how these breast plates are too heavy etc. It is wrong but most just seem to put up and shut up!

The Regt is still recruiting; we have many posts to fill and promotion rates are back to where they were ala cold war days, if you're good, 3 years to Cpl.
Losing Rapier will work out to our advantage in the long run, as the generic Gnr will be more infantry focused, better trained and better equipped.
Hostility, no, the green eyed monster takes many forms.
