"You should treat your aircraft like you treat your woman."
"So you should take your plane out to dinner and a movie?"
"No, get in her 5 times a day and take her to heaven and back!"

The Arty call themselves the "Queen of Battle", but everyone else just calls them "drop shorts". I suppose they got to be "queens" by always dropping their shorts! (Arf, arf!).

Other names are: Gunner, Guns, Golf (radio voice procedure).

Then you've got the FOOs (forward obervation officers). I always wondered how they diferentiate between the FOO's for the land-based Arty and the FOO's for Naval gunfire support. My solution was to add the word "Land" after "Forward Observation Officer" for land-based Arty, the acronym for which is, of course, "FOOL". My proposal was met with scant enthusiasm at best! All for nought now as the FOOs have been replaced with "FEOs" (Fire and Effects Officers).

The Royal Canadian Regt war a lanyard in dress uniform. A battle distinction earned when they once took over the guns abandoned by the gunners and repelled an enemy attack.
