will try again ref joining up
new message i think every one got the wrong end of the stick( a bit of inter regt pride) i think , anyway i took my stepson up to cattrick to join the guards i was amazed on how old the barracks looked to say it is one of the infantrys top training place, like i said i might be getting older but every one looks so young and why are the paras and guards right next to each other would that cause a problem at night fighting etc etc or do they value each other i hear they have a guards att to the paras is it true.
also can anyone tell me why have they stopped making bed blocks, they just make there beds now and are allowed mobile phone plus tvs after week 4 ,is it me or is it a new age army

Now I am just an old fart, but I have been back to my old regimental barracks a number of times during the last ten years and I have found that lads that serving are just younger versions of what we where. The only thing is that they have more kit to carry and a winder range of it. To be quite honest i would be happy to serve along side any of them. My old Regiment was the Para's and the last time I spent some time with them was May/June of this year when I was back at No1 Parachute Training School at Brieze Norton.

Better constructed post....
You need to open your eyes and realise this is the 21st century...things have changed, the young people today have changed and Army training has changed with the times. The facts remain that the Army still produces excellently trained infantry soldiers who go on to serve their country proudly in some of the worlds combat zones such as Afghanistan and Iraq and i think you should have some respect for them.
Firstly, i dont know what a "Brownes" camp is, but Barry block in Helles Barracks is a sh*t hole im not going to disagree there, its very old and will soon be knocked down. However, if you were in the army you would have stayed in a similar place so how is this worse than what you had to stay in? Ok, so there is a naafi and a modern scoff house (with aweful scoff being served) but para recruits are very rarely allowed to go there in the first 6 weeks of training. Im sure its the same with the Guards, but they will visit it more often to buy all their tins of parade gloss and brasso.THE GUARDS ARE RIGHT NEXT TO THE PARAS THE PLACE LOOKS LIKE A BROWNES CAMP
How does being spotty and looking young make the paras "a right pile of cr.p" exactly? We are and always will be better than your previous unit, and they are probably all spotty and looking about 10 nowdays anyway so what exactly is your argument here?THE PARAS WELL THEY ARE ALL SPOTTY AND LOOK ABOUT TEN A RIGHT PILE OF CR. P
That is a blatent untruth im afraid. Parents are allowed to visit the barracks on week 4 and the recruits may leave the barracks for a few hours but be back for a certain time that evening. The first weekend leave is not until week 6.THEY ARE ALLOWED A WEEKEND OFF AFTER WEEK 3
We still are the best and always will be. It doesnt matter who or what type of person turns up at depot, they will all be turned into Paratroopers should they choose to stick with it.AND JOINING THE PARAS YOU WERE THE BEST YOU WERE PROUND NOT NOW THEY TAKE ANYBODY (EXCEPT LIGHT INFANTRY)

This has got to be some sort of wind up! The bloke can't string a coherent sentence together, seems to have problems getting his caps lock off (maybe it's so he can read it himself easier through his 'special' glasses), yet has the neck to throw abuse at some of the finest regiments in the army. Get a grip you wannabe civvy puke.

Come on, at least read what you've written before you post. It's a litany of errors. You are to grammar what King Herod is to baby sitting. Perhaps if it's more coherent, people will be less likely to launch into vitriolic abuse and more willing to give you opinion a hearing.

"Herod (73-4 BCE) was the pro-Roman king of the small Jewish state in the last decades before the common era. He started his career as a general, but the Roman statesman Mark Antony recognized him as the Jewish national leader. During a war against the Parthians, Herod was removed from the scene, but the Roman Senate made him king and gave him soldiers to seize the the throne. As 'friend and ally of the Romans' he was not a truly independent king; however, Rome allowed him a domestic policy of his own. Although Herod tried to respect the pious feeling of his subjects, many of them were not content with his rule, which ended in terror.Shortly before his death, Herod decided against his sons Aristobulus and Antipater, who were executed in 7 and 4 BCE, causing the emperor Augustus to joke that it was preferable to be Herod's pig (hus) than his son (huios) - a very insulting remark to any Jew."
I've tried, but the Reg are right. You are a total hat.

I must agree with the comments that have gone before, to which i would add that I have met, worked with and seen photos of many soldiers, and to be honest at some stage they probably all looked 'about ten and spotty' but it didn't mean they couldn't do the bizness.
There is a photo of a member of 3 Para taken on Longdon, the man (he had become one during the night) looks 'about ten and spotty' but is also a portrait of a hardened soldier, so impressions can be decieving.
Apart from that, I don't see much in your post, revised or beer-soaked, that really means a lot. Go and think your next post through a bit longer.
And save me your insults - I used to get paid for being sworn at, by the experts.
