RAF bases...

Post by jE^_^ »

I have been looking on the RAF website as im compiling some revision notes in time for my officers interview on nov 27th. all i could find was the following:

permanent bases overseas in:

Ascension Island
Cyprus
the Falkland Islands
Gibraltar.
The RAF also has operational deployments worldwide, such as in Afghanistan and the Gulf.

Im sure there are more bases than this? any more information would be great.

thanks

I'm not expert on the RAF but don't we have bases in Kuwait and Qatar? I believe the one in Kuwait is called Ali Al Salem. Also what about Diego Garcia I know it's mainly a US base now although we still own it but surely we have some kind of permanent base there too given it's strategic location?

They aren't actual RAF stations. I know there is always a squadron of aircraft there, Tornado's I think. And there is also always a Regiment field squadron there. Ali Al Salem is a Kuwaiti base that the RAF use to enforce NATO "legislation" in the Gulf, it is not an RAF station.

Bumping this topic, as I've got my officers interview soon - and as previously mentioned I'm sure there were more than that, but am struggling to find any information about it too.

Good luck jE^_^. Hope it all goes well.

What about Goose Bay Canada, don't they practice low level flying there in the Hawk's.

From what I understand Goose Bay Canada is slowly drawing to a close. Also Squadrons going to Qatar usually go to Al Udeid.

You guys aren't the only ones. :soldier_armed_eek:
