Muslim accosts injured Para in hospital

Muslim accosts injured Para in hospital
By Thomas Harding, Defence Correspondent
(Filed: 02/10/2006)

A paratrooper wounded in Afghanistan was threatened by a Muslim visitor to the British hospital where he is recovering.

Seriously wounded soldiers have complained that they are worried about their safety after being left on wards that are open to the public at Selly Oak Hospital, Birmingham.

On one occasion a member of the Parachute Regiment, still dressed in his combat uniform after being evacuated from Afghanistan, was accosted by a Muslim over the British involvement in the country.

"You have been killing my Muslim brothers in Afghanistan," the man said during a tirade.

Because the soldier was badly injured and could not defend himself, he was very worried for his safety, sources told The Daily Telegraph.

A relative of the Para said the man had twice walked on to the ward where two other soldiers and four civilians were being treated without once being challenged by staff.

"It's not the best way to treat our returning men," he said. "They are nervous that these guys might attack them and, despite being paratroopers, they cannot defend themselves because of their injuries."

The Ministry of Defence, which said that it had no record of threatening incidents, indicated that there was a military security presence at the hospital and it co-operated closely with local police.

A MoD spokesman said there was "appropriate security" at Selly Oak for the 11 servicemen currently being treated.

But Liam Fox, the shadow defence secretary, called the treatment of wounded troops "an absolute disgrace".

"They should be in completely separate wings even if this means shutting down entire NHS wards. It is a betrayal of our troops having them treated in mixed and open wards. Those who have been injured on operations must be with those who understand their predicament in a secure environment.

"The Defence Secretary should be having urgent talks with the Health Secretary to do this otherwise this Government's commitment to our Armed Forces is nothing but talk."

There is also resentment among serving troops unhappy about being treated in a NHS hospital that they believe is unsuitable for military patients.

Soldiers on operations say they would rather receive a more serious injury and go to the top American military hospital in Ramstein, Germany, than end up in a NHS hospital.

They now half jokingly refer to getting "a Boche rather than a Blighty" in reference to the wounds that would send them home. Ramstein has an outstanding unit for brain surgery, and neurological intensive care beds in Britain are in short supply. "The blokes see it that if you are unlucky you get wounded and go to the UK at the mercy of the NHS, but if you get a head wound you get sent to Ramstein in Germany where the US has an outstanding medical facility," said an officer serving in Afghanistan.

"It also does not do morale much good knowing that within 18 hours of being wounded you could wake up in a NHS hospital with a mental health patient on one side and an incontinent geriatric on the other."

The latest figures show that 86 troops have been injured in Afghanistan during the past six months of fighting. More than 600 soldiers have been flown back to Britain after being injured on operations abroad since 2003 with most treated at Selly Oak, which is also the headquarters of the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine.

In the past decade the seven military hospitals in Britain, Germany and Cyprus have been closed. The remaining military hospital at Haslar, Portsmouth, is expected to be sold to developers next year.

On this note-which is terrible I cant but help post this

IS IT ME? OR IS THE SHIP SINKING?

Having spent over six years in the Royal Marines, some of which was on active service in Northern Iraq. Ten years as a Police Officer/ Detective working in the most violent place in the country during the 1990’s and now running my own business. I am now experienced enough in life to express my concerns and comment on what every law abiding and hard working citizen seems to be saying as I travel around the country.

My wife who has worked tirelessly for some twenty years in the NHS on understaffed paediatric wards faces unemployment. Our local hospital now seems destined for closure after millions of pounds has been spent developing it?

Our Armed Forces are stretched to the limits as our sons; brothers, fathers and friends die for what? How many politician sons are in these war zones? Cheryl Blair cried when her son left home. What would she have been like if he were going to Afghanistan?

We have an immigration policy that beggars belief after years of neglect and the turning of a blind eye?

Police officers who will soon have to hand out £100 fines to muggers? I might take up mugging for a living- Cash rich-No tax. A £200 mugging equals a 100% profit.

Can you see where this is going? Sound all too common in your living room of despair. If not then read on….

Everybody at the labour party conference in Manchester could be seen clapping and smiling for Tony and two jags, two standards Prescott. What a great job they have both done as the greasy pole brigade waited patiently in the wings ready to commence the climb.

This is of course while the families of those killed in action camped outside to voice their protest and sadness, having struggled with the local labour council to do so.

Just down the road from the conference is a different place, "Moss Side". Where young men in their teens run around only to eager to brandish weapons more commonly faced by our soldiers on the battlefield. (Who incidentally are overseas protecting and keeping us safe in our homeland?)

We have thousands of young people who have faced no boundaries in their lives whilst growing up. The word discipline is as remote as the land our soldiers are serving and dying in? The gun culture is not just limited to that 1990’s problem place Moss Side. London, Nottingham and Birmingham have all seen it recently.

The Government and various social carers have been telling us for years, "The responsibility must lay with the parents".

Half these violent and not so innocent teenage delinquents run around like packs of wild hyenas waiting for the next victim. These teenagers come from backgrounds with no structure or discipline. Miles away from the silver service coffee shops around Westminster. There is no motivation to have good family values these days. The role models in the latest gossip magazines coupled with the "give it to them all attitude" of our welfare state hardly constitute a strong foundation to motivate and promote family values.

If you don’t believe me, ask any inner city Police officer who runs around on a busy night shift picking up the pieces after the binge drinking. This of course whilst the local residents remain prisoners in their own homes, too frightened to walk to bingo or the pub for fear of being assaulted or caught in the crossfire?

Then unsurprisingly someone is shot and murdered. We see communities in grief or is it just morbid curiosity by those who bury their heads in the sand blaming everyone else but themselves? It’s a terrible and sad waste of young life. For a fleeting moment everyone realises that life isn’t so cheap.

But where have the Hyenas gone? Amazingly our criminal justice system changes them into innocent teenage puppy dogs that wouldn’t hurt flee? It might fool some but its getting a bit tiresome. "Or is it me?"

Punishment in our schools? The cane went years ago in time to witness the social chaos we hear and see today. The phrase, " It NEVER did me any harm when I was younger?" is something that has ignorantly been mocked and mimicked by the social workers and invisible do-gooders? But I was NEVER concerned about going out and getting robbed.

The Human Rights Act? Whose human rights are these then? The criminals and solicitors are the only ones benefiting from it. Not you and me, who behave, work and pay our taxes. You only have to look around the country to see the number solicitors practices springing up in nice new offices whilst other public services are counting the pennies and closing daily. It’s now called the blame game or no win no fee!

We keep being told life is good and all these minor wrongs are going to change? You ask any politician? But before you do this, consider that large proportions of them are solicitors by trade and will not want to unsettle the nest?

Criminal gangs many of whom are of foreign decent commit millions of pounds of insurance fraud by staging bogus accidents. Slamming their brakes on in front of you to rape the no claims insurance discount you worked so hard to build up?

Bogus driving test exam passes? Logistic companies employing foreign HGV drivers who have purchased their licences from abroad and then arrive in the UK where they are exploited and under cut British drivers putting jobs, lives and mortgages at risk?

Still feel happy letting your child out to play?

Schools are being over loaded with children from migrant workers putting more strain on limited resources. I don’t believe all these migrant workers are all paying their taxes either. You only have to go to East Anglia on the land to see gangs of migrants and cash being exchanged with no mention of Tax.

Competitive sport in schools went a long while ago? We can’t have successful national athletes and football teams from kids sitting around? What we have achieved is a nation of obese kids all to eager (a result of power advertising) to shovel rubbish down their necks in order to boost shareholder profits. Why aren’t any adults from the families doing something to improve self-motivation, confidence and self-respect? Well that’s because lots of these adults had no boundaries or discipline themselves. This can be seen by parents trying to sell chips from a graveyard to pupils in a school which is desperate to try and improve things?

Honesty in our national game of football has vanished. Over taken by money and the need to cheat. Diving to convince the referee or taking a cash bung.

Life is competitive and we need to teach our young people that sport breeds confidence and there is no need to cheat. Or is it better and seemingly more acceptable for them to cheat or commit crime. Even when punished the deterrent isn’t there as the young swagger from court saying, "result!"

The Sex offenders register? Who are we kidding? We don’t even know the number of immigrants in this country let alone where the sex offenders disappear.

What about our national borders- I frequently travel to France. You only have to get on the channel tunnel during the early hours and see how custom officers operating with minimum staff act as a chocolate fireguard. It isn’t rocket science to bypass the system. Especially if you are a desperate illegal immigrant guaranteed a free meal ticket with accommodation. Worse still it could be a home grown terrorist motivated by our rudderless foreign policy.

Before you ask- I’m not a racist or some religious crackpot. I am a realist concerned for the future of my children. My father came here from India during the early fifties. He worked very hard and adopted the standard of behaviour set by the British nation at the time. Unfortunately the cancer of neglect, double standards and poor policy from this and previous governments has spread into our British veins eroding our national pride and feeling of safety.

My local conservative MP (who incidentally is a solicitor) portrays himself as a people person. But if you ask his neighbours what he is like, a different man appears. One who is miserable and arrogant especially when no cameras or reporters are about?

"Is he like the many out of touch politicians who have no talent but like the show business lifestyle?

Yet least we not forget when our boys come home. There are many hidden injuries while they have been away playing international Policemen, Peacekeepers and soldiers. In return we offer them very little praise or support once they have come home. No free meal ticket or accommodation for them. Why, because their extreme bravery and self sacrifice is taken for granted and makes us feel no safer in most parts of the United Kingdom.

Did you know most single soldiers discharged from the military are way down the housing lists of local council housing programmes and some end up being homeless. I recently met an interviewed a homeless twenty six-year-old veteran who had served in Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan!

You only have to see that our welfare system has indirectly caused the ship to start sinking. The extravagant spending on immigration and by others not contributing has caused the lack of money and unrealistic cutbacks. The Naval hospitals in Plymouth and Portsmouth along with many other military hospitals were closed over a decade ago. So where do these hidden figures of the injured soldiers go? You’ve got it. The over burdened NHS system faced with closures.

So what’s the answer you ask? Get tough and start in schools. Introduce tough self-discipline where respect is taught and learnt. Kick out those immigrants that commit crime or don’t want to work. No ifs and buts! But above all get rid of the Human Rights act, otherwise LAST ONE OUT TURN OFF THE LIGHTS.

SYB, I compliment you on putting the whole mess in a well-written nutshell.

If it goes much further for much longer, then there wil only be one way that it can go - a bit like NI in 1969, Hungary in 1956, etc etc etc. You would nearly think that this outcome had been engineered.

Ahoy there!
Imagine the reverse situation.
A Brit accosts an immigrant ethnic in a hospital and tells him to take his turban, dish dash, dreadlocks (or whatever off).
Entirely out of order and there would be an outcry.
However in this case not a word from the human rights brigade, and barely a murmur from anywhere else.
Shame that Peter the Para didn't have a couple of mates in visiting him at the time. There might have been a happy ending to this affair.

Big Stevie thankyou.
Its only what the people I served to protect for years are saying as I travel round the country. If it wasnt so serious Id laugh about it....

Rogue Chef.
You are totally right. The bloody civil libs doogoders call them what you like vanish in cases like this Para.... Makes me sick.

Jr.
I think its nothing to do with what colour you vote for. Its all about lost direction from the lot of them. All to busy feathering their nests...

We need somebody with big balls and a good CP team to get the ball rolling back in the other direction- We need to get some of our standards back that made it a "great Britain". "Not shite Britain".

The sad thing is- Ive already planned to leave when the time is right. My Pension/savings have been invested abroad. Sick to death of giving part of my hard money to these spongers. Whether they be white, blue, black yellow or Pink

I double that.

Thing is, i think every comment on this topic so far is right or has correct values.

Matter of fact is, what can be done about it? and who is going to do it?? Blair is too intrested in Human rights and what will be said about that if we cracked down on muslim->white crime... they have a easy excuse? "your targeting me because im coloured / religious" whatever... i think its getting a little out of hand.

We should rule our country and treat the people who defend it with treatment and care they deserve. Not worry about who we are going to upset if we intend to look after ourselves.
