Alright guys, first post in these forums as a possible RM (well, a hopefull one).

I'm doing a fitness course at a college at the moment to try and get me training in the right step, the course is for two years but unfortunetly i'm only able to do one because well, my family (being father, mother, two sisters) are moving to Australia next year.

What would you advise me doing, finishing my two/one year(s) here (if neccisary, I should be able to get to the right fitness level to pass my PRMC in a year I reckon) and move to Australia with my parents and join the RM or equivalent in Australia, or perhaps join the RM here in the UK and hope to get positioned in Australia. It's quite a neccisity to me because they are my only close family and I'd like to think I could be some where close to them when on leave.

Another thought which also crossed my mind, would I have to wait a few years to be classed as a full citizen in Australia before I could join their RM, like you do here in the UK?

Cheers.

Further to that,

I was at our Corps Birthday Dinner last Saturday and we had several former Bootys who had been down the Oz Para and SAS route. Some of them enjoyed the experience, some thought they had been shafted.

We had three guys who are serving in OZ Regt at the moment and they are loving it. 8) They have never been as busy as they have been for the last three years and it was really good to meet the guys and offer our support.
OZ SF is not and never will be the same as UK SF. They don`t have the same exposure. OZ Defence Force won`t stand any casualties and that is why the Badgag contingent tries to look offensive as they patrol inside the Green Zone. :-?
Er, no offence.
On the SF side they have done well in Afgan, most noticeably three years ago.
Without wanting to piss off any Aussies, Commando is earned by the indivudual, not granted by your government 8)

Ok, thanks for the advise.

I'm thinking along the lines of "F**k staying in the UK!" at the moment now, after spending a few days abroad with my College.

I'm going to further look into it, because, as much as I really, really want to be a Royal Marine, regardless of where I live. I'd be a fool, if I went to Australia with the purpose of *just* going in the Marines.

I guess when you are moving to the other side of the world, you have to go with an open might, right?
