General RAF regiment stuff...

Post by Scott_A »

Alrite lads!!

Ive been wanting to join the regiment for a while now, ive been thinking about officer or the ranks, and think im gonna go in for the ranks! Im hoping to go for 2 squadron and train for the paras! Just a couple of questions!

All the time ive said im join the RAF, ive heard alot of rumbleings like, theyre being dispanded or its just like being a security guard?! Now this sounds nothing like the elite force that i want to join, but id like to here it from a serving regiment gunner!

Another thing, i used to have quite bad hayfever, and used medication for it when i was around 10/11/12, i still get it now, but only in small cases, and i never use medication or it! Would this being on my med docs affect my application?!

Thanks,
Scott

No, I don't think it is fair enough. If you pair of t*ssers don't have anything usefull to contribute in response to a couple of reasonable questions then just don't bother.

Of course, you know what we realy need Fwd5, no threads or posts, just a big search button, with a remerk saying, "Hey, piss off, if you can't be bothered searching, we're not interested in speaking to you. What do you think this place is......friendly!?!?"
The thing I never understand is why some folk can't be bothered replying with anything constructive, but can be bothered replying with some sarcastic comment. Why not just leave the guy alone? Or better yet, actually respond with some kind of sensible reply.
SEARCH BUTTON......WTF is that all about?! Get a grip. All you are doing is driving people away.

Scott, unfortunately I know bugger all about the Regt. but there is a boy (RAF Reginald) who seems to know what he's talking about. Why don't you PM him? Good luck.
Cheers, Cammy.

Search button is there for a reason....... Why contribute AGAIN, to a question that has already been answred? Its not a case of not being bothered to reply or be 'friendly' its about keeping the posts origional and keeping the volume of duplicate information to a minimum. Origional posts make the site more interesting instead of just trawling through the same old questions. So before you go being all macho armed forces wanna-be, try thinking, it helps.

I think perhaps you should calm down. Information in the forces as regards to the application process all the way to PGAC changes and there is a lot of conflicting information. So I see no problem in asking a question again as 9 times out of 10 gonna your get a more up to date answer.

For one its proberly the most unfriendly thing people can do to a new person on the site, basically telling them to p**s off and use the search button. It makes people just want to not come back and makes you lot look like a miserable bunch.
Also if there was no one posting any new threads then the whole site would shut down and basicaly be boring wouldnt it?

I'm in agreement with Boney_Gildroy. Repeated threads asking the same things doesn't serve to provide more information but insteads masks potentially valuable threads. Also it uses up site bandwidth.

An afternoon spent trawling through search and some of the older pages in the forums is not always a waste of time. Several times i have found information relevant to me and others which have helped shape my plans for application.

If you really HAVE to ask a question which is moderately related to topics covered then what i'd do is to bump a similar thread rather than creating another one.

No, if people asked decent questions, instead of something that has been recently answered, then the site would remain origional and interesting as all the posts would be fresh and different.
Yes there is conflicting information, but if a new user dosent put in the effort to research what they are looking for, then noone is going to bother to reply with a decent reply.
Also if your worried about not being friendly, and not taking on board information, then id reconsider your career choice in the Armed Forces.

I'd rather read the occasional repeated question than a load of guys arguing over it.

If people keep getting told to basically f@#k off then nothing's going to be fresh or interesting..

It's only a bloody forum, nothing to get angry over!

Scott.
In your situation I would check out our sister site.

Military fitness & Training.

www.mfat.co.uk

Plenty of info over there.

Scottish cammy is right, raf reginald seems to have his finger on the pulse, plus he's a decent guy. Iv had some good help from boney right enough but i don't agree with his idea of search, search and more search. The time it takes to post any info you have is very minimal so where's the big prob. Im currently going through the process, i have my aptitude soon, i would'nt agree with the security guard thing unless security guards these days train for 5 months or more. Theres also 2sqdn which is a para reg which you might find is too your liking but going on your post you sound like you might want to be in the thick of it in which case the marines do see more action and the basic training is a bit longer not much though. Hope that's helped a bit but def try raf reginald he'll give you all the advice you need. Good luck
