How can this be justice?

Post by Sarastro »

Just read an op-ed (Times, today) on child abuse cases, namely where parents are falsely accused and the flimsy medical evidence which is used to back it up - several cases in the past few years have attracted news being publicly overturned because of the almost total lack of evidence in the original conviction.

What interested me, however, was the way the article completely wrote off the chance of parents who have been cleared of abuse ever getting the children back who have been taken away from them! How does that possibly happen?

Then I read some of the stories in a forum concerning this below:

Notably:
The problem with adoption is that it is final. In those cases where it may have been used for insufficient reasons, parents have the heartbreak of losing their child for ever – even if they subsequently prove their innocence. The child may never know that their loving parents tried their best to give them a home, but fell foul of the system. Before the Government presses further down on the adoption accelerator pedal, it should be certain that everything is being done to ensure that such errors do not occur.
How the bloody hell is this happening without people being aware and a VAST outcry? Social services can waltz in, take a kid, get it sent away in a secret court, get the parents charged & often jailed on charges for which there is little to no evidence; and if they are cleared, they have absolutely no way to get their child back? Are we living in Germany circa. 1940? How is this possibly justice?
