Paratrooper, I wouldnt be too harsh on the RAF, believe me it may have taken longer to de- fuel the aircraft that actually burn the fuel off

Maybe if the RAF hadn't monged it in the first place there would have been no problem.

As for the civvy flight...it was 8 hours on a 747 so imagine how long it would have taken on a herc.

One question....do we have clearence to fly military aircraft; C-17's and C-130's over foriegn countries, or do we need special permission?

As far as i'm aware, it depends on the country in question. Many have clearance all the time (NATO countries for example), others you have to gain clearance prior to flight planning. Sometimes you end up flying around certain countries, if they're being difficult. Some only grant clearance depending on the nature of your mission, it can get very political, example being the landings at Pristina during the Kosovo conflict.
