Cranwell Officer Training Fitness Test / Aptitude & Medi

Post by SamW »

Hello Everyone,

I will hopefully be going to Cranwell providing I pass the initial selection interview... I am just after more details as to what is required for the following (I am female if that makes a difference to expectations):

Fitness Test - I know you have to do a bleep test but what level do they expect you to be able to achieve? How many sit ups, press ups etc do they expect you to achieve. What other fitness tasks do they make you perform?

Aptitude Tests - How difficult are these? Does anyone know of good practice websites that are similar to the RAF tests.

Medical - what exactly do they do here?

Any response appreciated!

Thanks

A good book for your aptitude tests is, 'practice psychometric tests' by Andrea Shavick. It covers all the areas in the selection tests such as verbal reasoning, spatial reasoning, numerical reasoning etc. Or on the other hand simply go to a good book shop and ask for Physometric testing. The books usually have information on what jobs go with what tests. Usually the books include good websites also for extra practice questions and research. Good luck with your intrview.

Few good sites for practice questions: www.ase-solutions.co.uk , www.testingroom.com , www.physchometrics.co.uk , www.morrisby.com

Tests

The apptitude tests are something that are hard to practice for, you either have a natural apptitude for them or you dont. The tests cover areas like grid co-ordinates; they set you off from a point, give you a set of grid co-ordinates and you have to work out where you end up, pictures of hawks at various pitches and roll, you have to work out which set of dials matches the picture, keeping a dot on a path using a joystick etc. You are up against the clock so you are under pressure from the start !

You must practice speed / distance / time calculations as these wil be thrown at you both as a team member and individually. One thing to watch is that there may be more than one answer, take all information into account then work out the answer. Be aware that time is of the essence and you will be under pressure. Ask your local AFCO for some more information on these, I am sure they will have some that you can practice on. Some AFCO's even run days whereby you get a taster of what is before you.

Group discussions, have an opinion and say it loud and clear. You are up against stiff competition and everyone wants to shine. Dont wait and think I'll say something in a minute because time will be gone. Even if you re-enforce an argument its better to say something than nothing.

Fitness depends on your age and gender, again am sure your AFCO will have upto date information.

Finally, their is a dvd/cd rom available on how to get into the RAF, do a search on wannado and it comes up, dont know how good it is though or how much it costs. A good trawl through these forums will provide a wealth of information.
If you want anymore detailed info pm me. :D

Apptitude Tests: You've either got it or you havn't so don't worry.
Medical: Don't get pissed the night before and be honest with them.
Fitness: As a female you could probably complete the fitness test whilst crawling however the boarding officers do look at you fitness score as a part of the overall marking.
