For those who can't get their heads round why the guys were naked. 8)

Do you realise how much a set of Best Blues/white gear/boots and Pith Helmets cost?

Doc,

Your post at 1138hrs (i.e. the long one, not going to quote it 'cos it's too long) should really, really be sent in to a national paper. It is an excellent counter argument to all the crap that is being spouted by the press at the moment. Please do it mate.

As an aside, I'm a wannabe Marine and am I put off by these videos? Don't make me laugh. Apart from the NCO kicking the guy in the face I think they're quite funny. I believe that it's par for the course if you're going to be a Marine.

My 2p.
Says it all really!

Just had words with my old man, he was dripping on about the reports in the Press of recent events. I asked him what his problem was and he went off on one about standards and why on earth are grown men naked and drinking!

Now my old man "runs" the local rugby club and last season after a rough game full of fights, the post match piss up kicked off. Drinking games were being played and some players were naked. A fight reupted between teams and they trashed the upstairs bar!

I reminded him of events and his response at the time "well boys will be boys and they were only unwinding after a dirty game in which the other team were bad sports and deserved all they got!"

My response "so if a bunch of marines return from a 6 month operational tour of a war zone and decide to have a party and unwind away from the public and drink alot and a few fists are thrown as they unwind thats a huge problem, whilst a rugby team who did similar for reasons of a stressful 80 minute GAME are ok!"

Fark you News of the World and the Daily Mirror, I may have only been an attached matelot, but Im proud as fark of serving with the RM and Id entrust my life to anyone wearing the Globe and laurels on their head!

All this from a paper that condons football players shagging two essence super models in a hotel room but posts pics of the models and how to get cheap porn vids on the same page!

I think the British Press need to look at their own moral standing before they judge the lads who fight to give them the freedom to publish shite they earn millions out of!!!!!!!!

Im immensly proud to have served on unit strength in 3 units of 3 Cdo Brigade RM, have friends who are and were bootnecks and to have stood naked at many a banyan!
WellI will quote it .
Well said mate.

I have to say to Doc and Tab - Well done for putting the point in a very succint way. I really liked Doc's argument, which was followed up by Tab's.
Civvy's will never understand the release that the Corps needs sometimes.
Doc. I really think you ought to send your piece to a responsible newspaper.
It certainly puts the problem in a logical light. Something civvy's - unless they are informed - will never understand. !
They need informing and you did a good job as far as I am concerned!

But what is the problem??? All we've got so far is some very grainy pictures of naked guys [hhmmnnn! and I couldn't even see if there were any pretty ones :-? ]

and the usual tabloid c**p.

Yet we've took the bait and ended up with six pages of comment about something we know nothing, or not much, about. Which is exactly why those unspeakable tabloid editors print this stuff - they know it will get a reaction.

Anyone got any contacts who can give us an 'expert eye-witness' account of what actually happened?

Hi all,

I'm not making any judgement on whats been in the news. I'd just be interested to know what would happen to someone who didnt want to do the stuff captured by the camera used.

The only out of order thing I could see was the kick to the face but of course that one picture doesnt tell you anything about the context around which it happened.

Cheers,

The military have always been an easy lay for the press and politicians. Doesn't matter whether it's RM or whoever. From my perspective, though, the U.K. is even more PC than Canada now. I would never have believed it possible, but there you go.

With all the cuts and with the PC crap, its a prime environment for finger pointing to translate into hacking and slashing. We lost the Canadian Airborne Regiment over it. All it took was a Somalian to be beaten to death by a couple of idiots, then some stupid hazing ritual vids leaked and that was the end of them. They just had the excuse they needed to get rid of the Airborne. Dirty buggers!

Next, every little twat with a grudge and a video camera was selling crap to the press. Dozens of careers of good men were ruined in the army and navy. They were sacry times. You weren't eben allowed to shred documents without permission back then. Thank goodness it's settled down now.

I think Rudyard Kipling sums it up well in "Tommy"

We aren't no thin red 'eroes, nor we aren't no blackguards too,
But single men in barricks, most remarkable like you;
An' if sometimes our conduck isn't all your fancy paints,
Why, single men in barricks don't grow into plaster saints;
While it's Tommy this an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, fall be'ind,"
But it's "Please to walk in front, sir," when there's trouble in the wind-
Whilst I may disagree with what you say, I will fight to the death for your right to say it.

Special train for atkins 8)
PM to you, Rocky
Nice of you to drop in mate 8)

And the lad wasn`t kicked in the face, he was punched. He has been asked several times if he wants to press charges and guess what?
No thanks was the reply.

It looked like a kick that decked him to me (although he was powder puffed before that), not that it matters. We've got no idea about the context and plenty of people are hanging the "NCO" already. That's for the Corps to sort out but I'd hate to think he's binned just because people at home don't like to see peolpe being kicked in the swede. I didn't like what I saw but I only saw a fraction of what went on at the banyan. Like H says, there have been no complaints.

Some readers may not like what I'm about to say but you never know, the lad that was kicked might have deserved it - I'm not saying he did for one minute. I've probably deserved one of those in the past - who hasn't? I just hope there's a proper investigation that isn't swayed by media sensitivities. If everyone who hits someone in the Corps is binned then what will be left?

You`re so right. The rest of the team were all for it, but I managed to talk them out of it saying you would turn into a bed wetter if anything nasty happened to you.
So what did tip you over the edge??

Good shout - it was definitely you by the way  And you being in the next door pit at Oakers left me a nervous wreck.

I remember getting back from leave in training and Crofty telling us his mum kept saying "Oh Adam! what have they done to you!" Still makes me chuckle, he did turn out to be a wretch after his spell in Yankee coy though.

The banyan was last May and as you say M`learned friend, one simply cannot imagine what provoked the assault  Royal always knows when to stop taking the piss but 8) , doesn`t he :P
On a technical point, when did Pusser start issueing Rubber sleep mats? Has there been a sudden increase in pit swamping in the field :o
I think we should be told :x

On a lighter note, some Oz guys from 4RAR and a few of Elmer`s finest had a "let`s get friendly" bar-b-q over in Queensland and rig of the day was rag-head towels as hats, and nowt else. Kin disgracefull  , bastards never invited me :(

I wonder if in future some turns up with a camcorder, or gets out a mobile phone and starts to record your group at play, that it will be stuffed in place were the sun never shines. I wonder just how much these people got paid for some these films that are now being shown.
