Dont care how tough these guys have got to be or what they need to go through to be an elite fighting force that 'NCO' was a total coward to kick a guy in the head while he was down. That kick could easily have killed him.

In any case whatever the guys motivation for making the film, be it making a bit of cash it is now out there and hopefully this sort of bullying will not be tolerated!

Could you really respect someone who did such a cowardly thing!?

Think this thread is now losing its way, none of us were there, so therefore cant take the incident into its total context. Bit like going on Hitlers skills as a humanitarian based on what Chamberlain said in 1938.

They were all pissed, things got a tad out of hand, as things do when alcohol is added to the mix. We've all been in that situation and the hanging head of shame the morning after.

Nothing has yet to be proven, and in my opinion it was high jinks and NOT bullying.

I also heard that the video was taken in May of this year, so if the film maker was so concerned why on earth has he waited 6 months to send the vid to the papers??

Again we werent there, and if anything needs to be answered then leave it to the Corps to ask the questions.

The Corps has survived longer than any of us, and I can say from experience that you wont find a better place to serve.

whatever people think of the 42 Cdo bullying/messing around, whatever it is, there are still at least 5 other commando units that dont mess around like this isn't there?? in my view, they are the most respected contingent of the British Armed Forces. My stepdad spent over 7 years as a marine and never once came across anything like this. As far as i am concerned, the men have earned the green beret and dont deserve to be treated like that

Who were the "violent bullies"the public called for, to assist and rescue them in the recent snow storms in Bodmin?
Surely they were not Royal Marines,as they do not seem to have had the same media coverage.Maybe that story was not sensational enough!
What a load of Bollox.
Your right Mike we went through training at the same time and as you
rightly say,we NEVER came across that bull$$$$

I've been listening to "Talk Radio" again. There were two complaints from ex serving RMs, they never got to wrestle naked with anybody. :)
They also had Col Tim Collins on who said it wasn't on, with all due respect to him if it had happened in the officers mess, it would have been called "High Spirits".
They also had a couple of ex Para's on & an ex SAS who backed the lads all the way.
The only doubt I've heard is about the "KicK", but more against the bloke that took the video.
One question was asked "would it put off future recruits from joining"?
I don't think so.

Having now actually watched the video instead of just reading what the papers put I now agree with Doc.

Guy who kicked him is still a coward in my books but papers have blown this incident out of all proportion

has anyone read amongst the marines?

Post by cliffchallanger »

lately ive been reading some books on the royal marines to find out what im getting myself in for. I came across a book called Amongs the Marines, it tells u his life story within the marines, and the stuff that happens is quite scary really but it still hasnt put me off being a Marine. He talks about how all new recuits get picked on within the commando units but 45 commando really, you should read the book its quite interesting and gives u a great insite to the marines and wat they get up 2 on duty and off duty.

The author of that book has given his views of the incident on page 1 of this thread.

I'm absolutely disgusted....that a trained bootneck could go down so easily, just what are they turning out at CTC these days  The pigs must have been choking on their port in the mess.

Nobody is going to tell me that the lads involved are recruits or even sprogs - too much weight on them, no webbing burns etc. On that basis where was the bullying? The NCO that ordered all of those lads to get naked and start filling each other in must have had a paper round in Falluja. Nobody is going to get that many bootnecks doing something they don't want to do. Complete bollocks.

It looked to me like they were trained ranks having a bit of a laugh - the camera pans to lads dressed in civvies at one point so obviously not everyone had to take part - as these things always go. The lad that was decked seemed to be the more agressive of the two and seemed to have upset the doc - as our Doc has said, it all got out of hand. Things do get out of hand even without copious grog being drunk (England v Samoa on Saturday?).

The paper's coverage and lies are disgraceful. Just one point of detail, sorry lads, you won't be trained to do flying kung fu kicks in basic training - there is a special Ninja Troop trained to take out machine gun positions with flying kicks FFS.

This looks like a Banyan that got well out of hand. Unfortunately the Media will now worry it like a terrier with a bone.

I have seen incidents like this and nine times out of ten it normally happens after an All Day Sess and Banyan (BBQ). The guys come back from NI, or some other place where it has not been very nice and a sess is organised normally by the Coy Sgt/Major and the troop SNCO's to let the blokes get it off their chests.

On the odd occasion after the ale had flowed blokes tended to get their revenge on other blokes. Sorry if this upsets people but it's a fact. I've witnessed it. But the NCO's would calm things down, I've stopped blokes having a pop at each other. Ask Steve Preece. This time however it's an NCO who decks the Guy sat on the deck. Sorry but this NCO deserves to be heaved out with a Dishonerable Discharge on his records.

As to it being a recruit thing. Load of Bollocks! 42 are just one of the three Commando units within the Bde and them blokes were most definitely not recruits. To me it looks more like a Coy PU. Support Coy more than likely as some of those guys were built like Brick Shithouses. Royal spends years trying to show a good image to the civvies and then this hits the screens.............It's going to take a heck of a lot of bridgebuilding to get the Corp back up where it belongs in the publics exteme.

My mate is about to start training, his mother after seeing this on the news, has offered to buy him a brand new car if he doesnt go in. And infact, I got a phone call from my mother saying she was worried, I suppose all mothers wont be wanting their sons to go away after seeing stuff like this. You can reason with them that its all sensationalist and to a degree lies but parents will always have some doubt in their mind. Like I said on a previous post, Mrs Jones wont be wanting 9st, 16 year old Timmy to go away and get his heid kicked off.

But then again, they are willing to send them off to war, but not to get a kick? :-? Women!

Hello Si - crap comms for a signaller eh? Whats new  Came back for the same reason. Mrs Sully was laughing her heed off at the description on the radio. I thought I'd try to find out what the gen buzz was but it'll all die out when they get to the bottom (no pun intended) of it and find out it there's nowt newsworthy there - just a bit of horseplay.

I have been asked why the nudity? To be honest mate I really don't know but it all makes sense at the time. How's Mike Hunt?
