I was discussing the issue of religious intolerance, use of F**k when spelling wee sweary words, attitudes towards minorities etc with Nurse during one of her lucid moments; lo and behold she came out with the following.
When a new member creates his/her profile, how about the next page they are automatically taken to, prior to accessing the site, is something akin to an "End user Certificate"; similar to those used on most sites that provide shareware etc. This would state the basic aims of the site, outline the degrees of tolerance to be exercised and explain limits on such minor things as polite usage of the F word etc. Acceptance would be the norm, contravention would result in the user receiving a PM with a copy of the certificate being a reminder of his/her responsibilities.
It would help reduce any friction between members when someone types an offensive word or opinion, and would be used by the moderator as "an initial word in the ear to the wise." 3 Strikes and you're out?
You should talk to somebody who gives a f**k.

Hi Jay, I mentioned this in one of the threads, but I guess this is where it should be.
I see there are quite a few who feel that the profile page should have compulsory sections and I agree with that. We will soon know if the info is genuine or not. I support the suggestion for a 'Service Background' section, so we know where they are coming from, and, after all, it is a Military Forum.

Hi Derek,

Have noted down the extra profile for Service Background/History.

Thanks.

Maybe a search engine for people who are looking for oppos etc. I was looking at the paras version, prehaps if there was a field in the profile area in which you add your unit, and joining and leaving date etc?

Ahoy there!
I intend to change my profile phot every few days (mainly for my own amusement), but it occurred to me that if a few more joined in, it would add to the entertainment value of the site.
What do you think?

Ross, your idea is basically sound but `adding your unit', becomes difficult as with individual drafting most of us were in most of the units at one time or another.

Jay,
the forced profile options, is that only for new registering users, I didnt have interests or occupation filled in (it is now though :D ), would it not be better to tell users already using the site to fill them in aswell?

Jay

Why not make a book out of the joke thread. You'd make a bomb.

All proceeds (well nearly all) could go to charity.

Forced profiles will be for all new registrants.
Currently working on a way to force profiles to be filled in by current members.

A joke book made out of the current joke thread is a great idea.
If its new written material by members this can be done.
The trouble starts when deciding what jokes have been used before in other publications as they could be copyright protected.
It's something that can be looked into. I will carry out some research.

Jay

Is there any way the two "banners" Once a Marine and Military Forums could be made smaller so that we could see at least the latest post on a thread withouth having to scroll down?

Sisiphus, that can be easily remided by increasing your screen resolution, to 1024x768 for example. To do that right click on your desktop, then properties, then settings then screen area, sorted. 8)

You're a genius. It worked!! :laola: The profundity of my technological ignorance is well documented. So being able to make the change says a lot about your precise and lucid instructions. Thanks again. Grovel over.
