I am English, and very proud of that fact, and I love getting up the noses of our Celt brethren, it's so easy to do so. They have, in general, massive chips on both shoulders, brought about by a sense of inferiority, due to the historical fact that the English are so superior in every way. The founders of our Corps, were the London trained bands, and you don't get more English than that, and I see nothing wrong with wanting the badge of the Corps mounted on the Cross of St, George.

Gentlemen and Others

First of all no chips on either shoulder and most of the best friends I have had for over forty years from the Corps are English. Pleased to hear you all wish to celebrate St George's Day and quite agree that it should be more recognised in your country. There is constant pressure on the Scottish Parliament to make St Andrew's Day a public holiday, and that is how it should be.

My "gripe" "drip" or whatever you want to call it, is that I never served in the English Royal Marines, it was the British Royal Marines, and I was pleased and proud to have done so. On that basis I feel quite strongly that the Corps badge on the Cross of St George to be inappropriate considering the mix of mainly British nationalities making up the Corps, even although it was originally founded from the London Bands.

I still however maintain that there is a large English element which equates British to English and stand by my "up nose" comments.

Finally for those who posted the somewhat derogatory remarks about the Celtic nations in general about inferiority etc, only two words. The second is OFF and you can perm your own first, from words beginning with B, F or P.

PS. Sorry, there is one thing I hate about the English - that stuff they call Bitter - an insult to decent beer !!
