Hmmm, oh dear. 8 RAF Officers mincing around on a gay pride float........probably with YMCA blasting out of the speakers. Does anyone else think this unprofessional nonsense is only going to futher damage recruitment>???

They aren't actually gay RAF officers, they are just recruitment officers from the local AFCOs. The parade is usually a really good laugh, as long as the sun shines! (Unlikely, it is Manchester after all...)

Hyperlithe, maybe they arn't gay but its still politically correct BS. As for being tolerant - they had the Brighton gay pride down the road a few weeks ago, I can only describe it as total anarchy! People were passed out on the pavement everywhere..........

Sorry but it isn't my idea of a 'good time'. For the past 5 years Preston Park has become a 'no-go' area after the gay pride because of fear of stepping on diseased needles!!!!!!!!!!

If this is the calibre of people the RAF are trying to recruit, then god help them.

Careful Greg, that sounded like a rather sweeping statement...
I know quite a lot of gays, and not one of them takes drugs, or even really drinks to excess. (They would be too worried about messing up their appearance! Before anyone has a go at me, that's what they said on the subject) I'm not saying it's the same across the board, but it's usually the straight guys at Manchester Pride who cause the trouble.

I think we can safely say that people who are injecting themselves with strange substances or drinking until they pass out on the pavement during the day are probably not going to apply for ANY of the military services anyway.

And it only becomes politically correct BS when the government introduces quotas to say that the military has to have X% of homosexual recruits. Look at it from the recruiting officers pont of view - you can spend another day sat in the office listening to some 15 yr-old chav who's come in in tracky bottoms, trainers, 'designer' jumper and a baseball cap telling you he wants to join the RAF cos he 'wants to fly a plane' or cos his Dad says he should, or you can go to a huge party. Hmm, tricky that one!
Don't take it so seriously, from what my mates have said, it won't actually make lots of gays want to join up. Even the more manly ones still prefer the Navy uniform...

My grandfather was in the fleet air arm, nothing wrong with the Navy. Someone high up in the RAF is making blunders - there was recently a new advert released to promote the RAF Regiment, its crap though from what I hear:

Pretty much every man in my family for the last 4 generations has been in the Navy at some point. I seem to be the black sheep, but then I'm a girl, so the tradition still holds!
Anyhow, that's kind of irrelevant; the point is, that it shouldn't matter who people want to sleep with, as long as they do their job, and it doesn't affect the people they work with.

I don't have a problem with gays, but I can't see them fitting in somehow. Plus there's always the worry of them humping each other in the dorms at night whilst in training.. :o
I know the PC brigade are going to lynch me for this. :D

Wouldn't have thought anyone would have the energy, after all that running about and being shouted at!
Guess I'll find out in a few weeks, tell you what, I'll come back and let you know...

I shall be a Weapons Systems Operator (Linguist)
Non Commissioned Officer, Aircrew.
I could have had Intelligence Officer or Air Traffic Control Officer, but Linguist was my first choice. (Got accepted on all three)
Start basic at the end of September.

Every squaddie and even a few paras i've had the luxury to talk to abhor the idea of homosexuals in the ranks. This is ground forces mind u, so i can't comment on the navy or airforce.

In any case, i think fags amongst the lads would be bad for morale, in fact i know it would.

In my humble opinion HOMOSEXUALS should NOT be allowed to serve in the Armed Forces. Life is difficult enough without having to worry about getting drunk and having someone trying to shove their manhood into your back passage.

If this offends anyone tough.
