I have been trying to work out where Iran stands in the whole middle east situation, are they a dangerous foe or do the US have some standing with them? Will they be next?

Depends what you mean: there are currently operations conducted in both Iran and Syria with high demand-low density assets for the purpose of regime change.
But if you mean a heavy metal approach, surprisingly enough maybe, keep an eye on the African continent.
The US navy will be conducting major exercises off the West coast of Africa (called Summer Pulse 04).
The exercises have two main purposes:
demonstrating the US still has major power to project anywhere, even while conducting major ops in the Middle-East.
And the other is to protect the newer offshore oil resources. They make no bones about this. Which brings the question of whether projections of Iraqi oil production are as viable as Wolfowitz in particular assured us they would be given the security situation.

Sorry if I bored you HH. Simplistic, yes but then I do not have a great deal of knowledge on the situation. Ill informed, I knew that someone on this site would be able to answer my question, and thanks to an interesting and helpful answer from Frank S I now have some information and a link to follow to find out more.harry hackedoff wrote:Cambridge bloke, fair point.
