Hi,
My grandfather was a private in the RAMC in Dec 1914, as noted on my father's birth cert at the time. He was also noted as living at a private address in south London. Wouldn't they have been in barracks?
No records of my grandfather's service exist so we don't know when he joined up. If it was prior to 1914, what could he have been involved in?
Apologies if these seem strange questions but there are many gaping holes in my family history that the answers to these could help with.

My grandfathers records from WW 1 and before are also missing. Most of these records were destroyed in the blitz when the building housing them was hit and it burnt to the ground. There are always the museums but they are snowed under with requests, the other thing is Ancestry and check the medal cards you just might find out some thing there. If you do go there make sure you only book in for month and make sure that they cancel your membership after that month or they keep charging you for it
