Green Turban!

Post by sneaky beaky »

Picked this up from the Once a Marine site!
Saw a very interesting sight today during the RMA reuinon at CTC. A young and I have to say very Polite smart recruit, with a diffence but not he was Indian but that he was wearing a Blue Turban on the front of which was the Corps badge. He informed me that when he passes out in the new year he will receive a Green Turban. Also of interest that due to his faith he was also excused shaving. How the world and the Corps have changed.
Is this right?
What do you all think?
I'm totally confused!

:D Sneaky.........I got to give the Sikh nod his due,he was smart,he was polite,But he did'nt seem to have that 'bootneck' air about him definitely no sense of humour, whether or not this will be installed during his 32 weeks remains to be seen. :o
I myself do not wish to see the 'Green Beret' demeaned or standards lowered to comply with the wishes of the P.C. brigade?.

Come the day of the passing out parade 'thats if he makes it' how the hell is he going to balance a pith helmet on the top of the turban??. Aye jr

Hi fellas, i am new to this site just reading the comments and finding my way round the site.Intersesting veiws i take it you are both outside now, the corps has changed, it has to,in order to survive.
There are a few of these blokes in the corps now, while i am not racist in any way shape or form you have to question the operational capabilities of these members as they can not wear ressies in an NBC environment due to the matlow beard they have or the effectiveness of a battle bowler, though some do wear bandanas which keep there hair pretty squared away, and would allow the use of a battle bowler i suppose?

Heyup mate, welcome aboard
Shouldn`t your location be Far Far Away :-? 8)
Ref Sikhs wearing turbans and beards etc. The Indian Army doesn`t seem to have a problem with Sikhs and they don`t have to wear the turban all the time as long as the top knot is covered. I`ve worked with several who would take the turban off in the morning and wear a hard hat all day without any problems. Sikh soldiers have an excellant reputation and given the current make-up of UK society I`m curious as to why there aren`t more in the Corps. I can`t imagine why they would want to wear a green turban when they`ve earned the Green Lid though :-?

Would you like to give us a heads up on what you`re up to within the Corps?

Shrek,
they shave as the alert state escalates, even matelots shave when the NBC state starts going up.
Dress regs have been re written to a degree to deal with all creeds, colours and religious terms. B'stards won't let me grow dreadlocks, smoke ganga, not work Fridays, not work Mondays, not work Tuesdays (Wednesday mornings are OK), have Ramadam off, Yom Kipper, Christmas, Easter, Thanks giving. I'll tell you what mate, you should try my religion, I have serious grounds for a redress.

How things have changed..... When My old Uncle Bill joined the corps in 44 aged 15!! One Sunday he was told to get on Church parade, once there he was asked what denomination he was and answered 'Wesleyan' to the stripy. Upon which the stripy said 'Aint got any of them here Lad, you'd better fall out and make yourself useful' Which he did from then on and never had a church parade while in the mob!!

Good on 'im.....

The one who hasnt passed out yet is in Hunter 2 atm, and Ive seen the ''Green Turban'' around camp. Didnt make sense to me to be honest. Jews arent allowed to wear the black hats are they? So why is he allowed to wear a turban. I havnt got a problem with it, it just doesnt make sense.

I refer honourable members to the answer I gave previously.

Why wear a green rag when you`ve earned a Green Lid? :-?

I agree with beardo, where`s the sense :-?

Oh Yes ! To be sure........

You are, in my humble opinion, well matured and thoroughly deserving
of this, small, attention.

More for ya money! a green lid is a small lil lid but that green turban must unwind for ever!

Rumour on the Nodvine has it that he accepted that he must wear a lid and shave but the PC mob insisted he wore traditional zulu wear for PR...

knowing the lad as i do as where in the same troop at the moment he's sound and was a section commander in his old troop so the heavy headwear has no implications on his abilty...seems to be coping with the ever present glares of people around camp...i think there has been incidents of racism around camp where it has gone up the chain of command, the culprit...a trained rank of many years!
