Right,
Settle in. Pulled up a few old threads to gain some additional advice but figured we could use some new info.
What are your recomendations for reamaining fit and operational whilst attempting to lose weight? Bit of a fat knacker me and i'm attempting to shift the weight. Doing plenty of exercise but does anyone have any advice on what to eat to enable me to lose weight without leaving me too weak to train?
Recipes, day plans and personal experiences would be useful.
As it stands i dont eat junk food (regularly) and have never been a fan of sweets / chocolate. I rarely fry food and in general i like fairly dry (sometimes bland) food such as plain white rice.

Play the swap game my friend,
White rice = wholegrain rice
White bread = wholegrain / granary bread
Beer = Low calorie Beer or even better a small glass of red wine (gay but it works)
Also, swap to six small meals a day. A fistful of a protein and a fistful of carbs for each meal. This way you are still eating a healthy amount, but not overloading your body, allowing food to digest properly. It also helps keep your metabolism high so you burn more calories.
[Edit]
Also as your body gets used to regular food (with the six meals a day) it will stop storing fat as it knows it is going to be fed.

As long as you are burning more calories than you consume and eating clean with plenty of exercise you will lose weight. Porridge, pasta, fish eat healthy foods you cant go wrong!

When I first started training I needed to get rid of my gut quickly. I stopped eating all crap foods, IE chocolate, chips, crisps, alcohol etc. Doing that and keeping active in assorted ways I managed to lose almost 2 stone in the time I've been working at it.
If like me you never eat breakfast, you should try to. I find it helps stabalize my metabolism, and I find myself less hungry for the rest of the day and with more energy.
Rich.

I lost a lot of weight in a small time. My weight for the majority of my life was 18-19 stone. I pretty much eat what I want, CHocolate breakfast followed by some hot cereal. Lunch would be a bowl of carbs followed by a breaded meat of sort. Dinner would be some salad, followed by some tuna(extra protein and one of the best sources of it) maybe some carbs, after that my infamous pudding concoction, which is pancakes and scones mixed with waffles and custard(unhealthy) All in all, large amounts of carbs will not do you favours such as rice(white), white bread(never eat that crap). If you wish to loose weight a bit try substituting dinner with an apple and some form of carb(very very small portion). It will work wonders.
THinking about leaving already!

That pretty much sums up how you can lose weight. I'll elaborate on it, you want to still be consuming fat as it is good for testosterone but not saturated fat from fried foods get it from nuts, oily fish and seeds.AdamMc wrote:Play the swap game my friend,

Also you would want to avoid carbonated soft drinks as they are generally high in empty calories and no good to anyone. There's some talk at the boxing club that bread increases water retention but I think that is just one of those silly boxing myths like muscle makes you slow.
The key though is a balanced diet, don't buy into any of this Atkins/low carb/detox bull that's going round.
A perfect meal plan for the day would be:
1) one cup of porridge
one egg white on wholemeal toast
2) brown bread banana sandwich
handful of some sort of seed pumpkin/sunflower
3) Tuna and brown pasta
two pieces of fruit
4) A piece of fruit and some more seeds
5) Meat, vegtables, boiled potatoes - eat before 1900hrs.
6)Smoked makerel and gherkins (Must be the Russian in me )
Obviously in the real world this is hard to stick to as seeds are nasty and you generally don't have time to eat all this, it is just the ideal model for weight loss whilst undergoing intensive exercise (in my opinion). You can instead replace various meals with some convienient meal replacement bars and a casein protein shake before you go to bed as it is a slower release protein.
Stick to something like that and you'll be looking fabulous darling whilst you sip your spritzers/vodka and orange juice.

Most of the lads who joined with me knew nought about Nutrition or any of these super dooper aids to weight loss/weight gain.
We just knuckled down and got on with it. After the first few weeks everyone but everyone in the troop would be there queing up for Scran aching to get stuck into whatever was available food wise. The Corp knows what to feed you.
I don't know if they still do the 4 O'clockers at CTCRM but it was well attended by one and all. Basically you tanked up on Sweet evapourated milk coffee with loads of sugar plus rucks of hot toast covered in Butter and Stawberry/Raspberry jam. Best Scran I ever had so it was.
Most of us joined up fairly fit but all of us bar a couple of blokes passed out of training weighing less than when we had joined. Racing Snakes to a man so we were.
Later when I was at CTC doing my thing the galley stopped or at least cut down on stuff like Chips and all the other stuff then considered unhealthy by the EXPERTS. Thank the Lord for Dutchies is all I will say on that matter.

Yeah this one, its been said on here before. Pretty much to put on weight you need to hit the weights to gain muscle mass which will bring you weight up, because I'm assuming your a thin lad who finds it hard to put on weight If your doing weight training though I recommend a high protein diet.
By continuing your CV workouts and adding some weight training sessions, they shouldnt really have an effect on each other. So therefore your able to keep your CV fitness up and put on weight.

It's not just a high protein diet you need to put on muscle, you need to eat a serious amount of calories also, especially if you're doing alot of C.V.
It maybe worth reducing the time you spend on cardio (especially endurance ) for a few weeks to maximise weight gain. If you stick to doing 2 hard interval sessions and maybe 1 other short, fast paced run each week you should maintain your fitness without jepordising your weight gain too much.
Rich.

I know i'm ashamed. But i do a lot of volunteer work and part of that enables me to have as much wine as i can handle free. Who could resist?Greg The Great wrote:Poof.Sonne wrote:Thanks for the advice. Not much of a beer drinker more of a wine and spirit man.

All this melarkey about calorie intake etc. isnt neccessarily the most important thing you should be thinking about.Fair one if you've been told to lose weight or whatever, but like Artist pretty much said as soon as you get into training, you'll be leggin' it to the galley hangin' out for some billy big eats scran.
Oh...and Artist,
nope fraid that 4 o'clockers doesnt happen anymore, sounds hoofin. But the nods are welcome (as in pushed) to go to the 9 o'clockers, which is like cereal, tank traps, butties and pretty much anything leftover from scran.
Or did you have that aswell?Cause i understand its only Royal that make their recruits have 4 square meals a day
