I must say, I agree with the point already made regarding syntax.

Stinky, I personally am terrified of dying. If a situation arises where the possibility of my death before old age takes me comes about, I think it is more of a commendable quality to have to be able to engineer a way around said situation.

Stinky,

By saying I wanted to reach "perfection" I meant that I wanted to end the pain and suffering caused by reading your nonsensical post, I don't want to join you and your mate's little suicide gang.

I do have some good news for you however. Everything you right down has an automatic copyright for free! You're getting mixed up with patents. However the bad news for you is that no one is going to be making any commercial earnings from the dross that is kicking around between your ears, so there may as well not be one. :P

Sarastro,

Sounds like you may have been reading some philosophy there. Bit of Epicerus is it? Bit of Nietzche? That Schopenhauer's a hoot isn't he just? :D

I'm partial to a bit of Alain de Bottan (spelt wrong?) myself, he explains it all nicely.

No worrys, I don't mind you not going with my idea, but it's just my personal way of getting through scary situations. And no, I'm not in a suicide gang and I wouldn't just let myself go easily, just when the time comes, thats what I'll probly be thinking. belive what you would like to belive, I just don't like the idea of worrying about dieing.

As was said in another thread once, things seem to go nipples up everytime StinkyFurby posts. I was really enjoying this thread it was usefull and encoraging until the meaning of life popped up.

Stinky, if you want to do some research on the matter I suggest you watch Monty Pythons "The Meaning of Life" it might give you some useful insight.

Anyone feel like getting the thread back on topic? a shame to see it cast off here.

My prefered SQ would most likely be Assault Engineer, although if my colour vision is good enough Coxwain of any small craft would be awesome, particularly Hovercraft!

As far as career progression goes, I really don't care what rank I achieve, if I do 22 years as Marine Benjo so be it. The most important thing to me is to do my best and become a ROYAL MARINES COMMANDO, regardless of rank I'll know who I am!

good point kiwiBen,

I just walked into work one day (little summer job i had) and said "i want to go in the marines" i have no idea were it came from but the more i thought and looked at it the more i knew it was for me. i guess its the challenge and the sense of achievement that ill get out of a career with the Royal marines, none of my friends are doing anything with there lives and i don’t want to be left behind like them.

I'll help the thread get back on track with my two penneth.

Although my dad was a Booty and I remember going knife throwing in the woods and trying on his green beret I don't think that made me really want to become a marine.

Like you Slaphead I just decided all of a sudden when finishing my first year at university. I couldn't play rugby at university because of a shoulder injury and so I ended up just getting drunk all the time, as students do. I basically knew I got dragged into the lifestyle because everyone else was doing the same and this would continue if I chose to go down my then chosen career path. I read about the Navy first of all and phoned up and they asked me if I wanted officer information on the Marines as well and I thought why not.

When I compared the two there was no comparison and I knew then that the Booties were for me. As far as the future goes I'm applying officer but if I don't make it first time I am quite willing to enter recruit as it is too long to wait to have another stab at YO selection. I haven't even thought about specialisations, I don't want to put the cart before the horse and they all sound pretty good anyway.

Before i post this, i will take this chance to say all this info my be cock and ball, told to me by some walter mitty. Seeing as stinky is so keen on dying, i thought i would post.

Told to me in the gym, last week:

Every soldier is given a life expectancy in the theatre of conflict. This is calculated by senior ranks in an office, and is used to decide how to use troops. For example:

On the battlefield an Infantryman in the army with no combat experiance and 1 years service is expected to survive 20 seconds.

On the battlefield a Infantryman in the army with previous combat experiance and 10 years service is expected to survive 1 minute

On the battlefield a Royal Marines commando with no combat experiance and 3 years service is expected to survive 2 minutes.

All the above would be in the same situation for a more accurate comparrison

Its seems very shady to me, and it is more than likely to have to truth to it, but its something to think about, ay

Personally when I come out of the corps (don’t know how long I want to stay in, depends on how much I enjoy it) id like to become a personal trainer (not just in any old gym)getting paid ridiculous amount of money so very rich people can say "my personal trainer was in the Marines" lol. I would love to become a PTI whilst in, buts that’s something that i love about the marines is that all the specializations look great.

Lads perhaps we should just be thinking of getting through training first, supposedly the dropout rate is big.

Totally agree with that GGHT, training first then i can start to think about my future.

not doing any harm though a post like this. Where all ambitious or we wouldn’t be going in the Marines.
