Digging into my "brain" to reccollect what it was in the old days, (circa 1976 and RM Org.) it seemed to be :-
OC Trp. = 1 * Young Lt.
Trp. Sgt. = 1 * SNCO (Sgt.)
I * Signaller as Troop Sigs.
This constituted Troop HQ.
Then you had 3 sections comprising of a Cpl I/C, a L/Cpl as 2I/C and eight men.
The L/Cpl used to command the 3 man GPMG group. The Cpl. led them and the rest.
Anybody else remember doing right flanking, (or left flanking) drills?
The Troop Sgt was the real boss although he would never say so. (In the Royal Marines - this is called training the YO's and the YO's, in general, understood this.)
Hope this helps. I don't think things have changed too much!
There were also three Troops in a Company, with much the same organisation. i.e.
I * Major as Company CO
1 * Capt as 2 I/C (plus Admin Officer!)
1 * W02 as Company Sgt. Maj.
1 * C/Sgt as Company Quarter Master Sgt.
1 * Cpl as Stores Cpl
1 * Sigs Team. ( Not sure of the makeup)
There may also have been a Company clerk!

Here's the basic break down of a canadian mechanized battalion.
HQ Section, Combat support Company, 4 Rifle Companys
(each rifle coy consists of 3 rifle platoons each platoon has 4 LAVs with 8-10 men per sections.)
Coy commanders are supposed to be junior major's or senior captains
Platoon commanders are supposed to be Lts or captains.
each section is led by a Sgt, with a MCpl as 2ic, then there should be 3 or 4 cpls, and 3 or 4 ptes.
