Heyup Doc. Charles 'Nish' Bruce was the fella - and agreed - a good but not a 'feel good' read.
As far as I know Kittinger is the only person to break the sound barrier 'unaided' so I don't think he was too fussed about staying up there or hanging about too long

I read about it in the Daily Mail (must be true) a while back and there were phots of him with a para reg cap badge but it looks like the gen buzz  is that he was in the Royal Irish as a regular and then in 4 Para after a stint as a journo. To prove what a gen buzz it is the article also says ...

Just make sure you enjoy it - especially at the start. Don't go off too fast just keep it nice and slow and you'll find yourself speeding up as you warm up and get into it. In the first few weeks knock it on the head with a feeling that you could have done a bit more and keep within your comfort zon...

Sounds liker a great evening. I saw Bad Manners at the local working mens club just a few years back and they were fantastic... tight rhythm section, great brass and fatty buster bloodvessel bopped for an hour or two - ee dun arf shift f'rer fat lad. I don't remember them doing many of the comedy/no...

I can certainly see how seriously hurting your leg will affect your push-up ability  . Why not just visualise the excercise - after all it's the thought that counts  And, as per Steve above you might get a better response if you (a) at least try to communicate clearly and (b) stop being ...

It sounds a little like costochondritis or Tietze's syndrome: http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/diseases/facts/costochondritis.htm I flew to the doctor (as you do with chest pains) and he thought that I had bruised or cracked a rib. I knew that I hadn't although the pain is similar to a cracked rib so I we...

Hey Napoleon. What possible interest would you have in a forum about the RM? Shouldn't you be name-dropping about your bessie oppo HRH Harry somewhere else? I think you're hallucinating or just making things up. Dreaming about people telling stories in pubs? Either way you seem to have some s...

Cap badge politics is bollocks mate and I always enjoyed working with Jack Perce and Crab. They all did jobs and tasks that we couldn't and Royal would be stuffed without them. This discussion is a bit different though and I'm concerned about the future of the Corps as the Corps but since I left a l...

That's cool 8) fair play to him for having a go but he did look gutted (not) about not having to do the Trainasium. I remember Elvis Gordon (British Olympic judo player) coming to CTC to try out a few of the 'activities' and the look on his face when he picked up a properly weighted fighting order a...

PA0578, some fair points there bud. I don't think I made my point very well though. I find it a bit odd that an attached ranks/supporting arms qualification now seems to be the full monty. Eight weeks starting as a fully fed, sufficiently rested, basically trained  , soldier is a far different...

Heyup LB  . Standards has always been a big thing in the Corps but 'elite' wasn't a word I heard much. We just cracked on with things and often had a different approach to our perce buddies. As I've said elsewhere, when the commando role was handed to the RM a decision was made that it would t...

Point of order. 1 Rifles are commandos! Is that a bite? If not then in what respect are they commandos? Because they've been given a badge? I could have a look around the shed and probably come up with a few of those if they're just going to be given away. The WW2 army commandos did their training ...
