Re: Criminal background

The rules are the rules i'm afraid bud. The Army won't even consider you until your convictions have been spent. Which basically means that you've served your time for your crimes. If you get a prison sentence suspended for 18 months then they wont touch you until after that 18 month period. After t...

Re: Rejoining after a medical discharge.

My RG8 has finally come back as deferred. The reason being that, although I have waited for the 12 month recovery period to pass, I have not filled in and presented a satisfactory diary of exercise for the latter three months of this period. Satisfactory is: running for 30-40 minutes twice weekly, ...

Re: Rejoining after a medical discharge.

My fitness diary is away and being reviewed. In the meantime I've been asked to go on a look at life course, which i thought was a bit strange given the fact that I've been in before. Apparently it significantly improves your chances of being accepted at your selection interview. So, as I need every...

Re: Trouble choosing a future, help needed!

It's really tough to choose a career path when you have little or no experience or insight as to what it will be like! Perhaps a look at life course would prove useful. I will say that the RM officer's course is very, very difficult and is the longest military training course in the world (I think ;...

Re: Racism worry

You shouldn't come across any bullying in the forces mate, everyone's in the same boat. The type of idiots that bully people will fail the basic training course. Expect plenty of friendly banter though, you might pick up a nickname or two, but everyone knows where the line is between a bit of fun a...

Re: Partner AWOL help!!

I was told as a rule of thumb he will get 1-2 days in Colchester for every day he was AWOL, before being discharged. His case is obviously more complex than 'rule of thumb'. The Army have an obligation to help him overcome his pschological problems, and you could argue that they have been neglegent ...

Re: Racism worry

This has actually reminded me of something that happened during my basic training. An Indian guy in my section was being bullied by a cocky, racist idiot from London that thought he was hard as nails. On our 2nd exercise the bully thought it would be funny to hit the Indian guy over the head with hi...

Re: joining as qualified vehicle mechanic

I was a mechanic (level 3) before I joined the Army in 2008 as a REME VM, I had to take part in the whole of the trade training. It was very, very frustrating at times. I had to do 'Engine Tech' learning firing orders again and the old 'suck, squeeze, bang, blow'!! I found that my instructors would ...

Re: Appealing against rejection

Unfortunately mate, your overdose is not the only big 'no no' on there! A peanut allergy is a big one. Soldiers have to have the ability to carry on moving whatever the circumstances. I'm afraid that having an allergy that could send you into anaphylactic shock at any time presents a problem. What y...

Re: Plumbing in the Army.

The Army don't expect you to turn up fully qualified. You might be eligible for a 'Golden Hello' (cash lump sum) if you join. Your best source of info is at the recruiting office mate. I was a fully qualified mechanic when I joined as a vehicle mechanic and still had to do a year long trade course. ...

Re: facebook accounts?

Remove your Facebook account when you come to your selection mate. Anyone serving in the special forces are not to make that fact known to the masses or display their identity on Facebook. But I wouldn't worry about it until your there, just watch what your posting and who you make it visible to, be...
