I thought that people like Basayev hijacked the Chechen cause and the struggle for independence became less important than the Jihad. Im no expert on the subject, and I know some of the tactics used by the Russians are deplorable, but I think Basayev in particular did Chechnya more harm than good be...

I used to try to argue my point by saying that as far as I knew the Viet Cong and Mujahideen never had to carry emergency washing and shaving kits and they seemed to get by.

Nobody saw my point.

Breaking News: Chechen leader dead.

General Shamil Basyev has been killed by Russian troops in Chechnya. No details available yet.

Could this signify the beginning of the end of the Jihad in Chechnya?

Hi mate, you have a pretty similar story to myself, I left the army and eventually became a Taxi driver, I joined the TA with the sole reason of going out to Iraq, I did and have never went back to the TA its full of hopeless social misfits and idiots who really want to be in a war film. So you end...

Take a coin from you pocket spin it in the air call heads for one unit and tails for the other, and which ever side lands face up you join. If any thing goes wrong you blame lady luck Thats about as good a way of deciding as any. If you want to go on tours, join the Paras or the Marines. Either one...

Damn.

I hope it went well for the old fellas anyway mate.

As a boy growing up dreaming of joining the Army, having a next door neighbour who lost his arm to a German grenade there was about as good as it gets.

Cheers,

Paul.

SO19, It was the Afghanistan part that really made me decide to buy the book. It was similar in a way to 'Jihad' (Tom Carews fake) except the only part I thought was fabricated was . . should I say? No, that would be naughty. I think you will agree when you have read it, but some things are better l...

There seems to be a bit of hostility toward certain ex members of 22 here.

May I ask why?

Ill have a look at these ones because Im always interested to hear about people who fight for other Countries, wether they are Legionaires, Mercenaries or anything else. Im curious to find out what motivates them. Romance aside, I really dont understand why somebody would want to be hungry and skint...

The Shooting Gallery

Ive just finished reading this book by Gaz Hunter and I have to say its as good as anything else out there of the same genre. It follows his life from living in Hereford as a boy and never seeing his dad who was constantly away on jobs, to serving in Northern Ireland as a Green Jacket in the early 1...

4 Para.

Ive just read on this site that 4 Para are going to start recruiting in St Helens. I only live a few miles away and Ive been thinking about joining the TA for a while, so this could be ideal for me. I was just wondering though, in reality, do Para reservists go on tour to places like Sierra Leone, A...

One little peice of bull I used to always hate was having to carry an emergency washing and shaving kit at all times, sperate from my washing and shaving kit.

What the hell . . is an emergency washing and shaving kit?
