Re: Joining the TA-Need advice

*I have no idea about the apllication process (apart from a BARB test.) Depends on the unit (BARB test is for regs, I never did one), but most run LookAtLife days, so work out what you want to do / who is nearby, give them a call and go talk to them. *What are the chances of me being deployed to Ir...

If you're RMR, and if you're about to do this job (presumably not just going into basic training?), then why don't you ask your unit?

Blood pressure tests are notorious for being inaccurate because the testing itself often makes people nervous, so don't worry about that. Luckily, they are doing the right thing by testing it in normal conditions, and so it won't be a bar to entry - it could be much worse, in previous days you could...

SF aren't designated Special because of how hard the training is or whether you can skewer bears with your tash bristles; it's about the role they are used in. Royal are a regular inf role who specialise in amphibious tactics, they go around in battalion strength, have support structures, have big g...

The more you move around with weight on, the lighter it becomes, so yes it should help you out later on. Particularly useful is going up hills (proper ones) with weight, because getting hills in your legs is also a matter of making your body used to it. I can quite easily outpace lads who are a lot ...

It's incredibly inaccurate. Royal aren't SF, the Royal Marines didn't form the Commandos in WW2 (they were formed by the Army, Royal were only part of one commando attached to the RN) but were amalgamated with the Commandos after the war, they aren't part of the Army as Max said... I'd be a bit wary...

Fail P-Coy twice, not officer training (which is Sandhurst)...and I really don't know. I'm not sure if it's even happened, the guys Para Reg get from Sandhurst tend to be pretty top notch, and they get plenty of time to watch them there to check that they have the right stuff.

Think going round the world might be a problem seeing as the maximum distance is measured more vertically than horizontally.

Bit rough weren't you? I'd rather be safe than sorry. But yeah, I guess all of this can be answered when I actually talk to a recruiter at an office. So thanks for all the replies. Not really. Especially since you still seem to think it needs to be answered; people here take their time to re...

No, you get an officer's commission into Para Reg from Sandhurst. Then after Sandhurst, pretty much the first thing you do is P-Coy (along with a load of other officers going into 7RHA and similar places). If you fail, you do it again pretty sharpish. Not sure what happens to people who got a Para R...

Para Reg is part of the infantry. You've been linked the 3 PARA sniper cadre page, which would seem to suggest that yes, there are snipers in Para Reg. You could also read any recent book about Para Reg and multiple news articles which talk to Para Reg snipers. You have been told multiple times here...
