I know a guy who was in the SBS who lives near Exeter.
Does that make the SBS near Exeter?

I think it is time that this thread was closed. It does seem to me that the original poster i.e. the guy who says there is going to be a fight, - "although there is 10 of us and 50 of them but there is going to be a fight!!", is actually looking for a fight. Why don't you schoolboys grow u...

The movie was awful and a bit of an embarrassment. Particularly in the portrayel of the two officers - Jose Ferrer as Blondie Haslar and Trevor Howard as his so called 2 I/C. But I suppose it added human interest. Tony Newley was an interesting choice as Bill Sparkes! You needed to speak to both men...

Imagirl,

When I was a bit younger and in my prime, it wasn't unknown to go to bed at 3 in the morning - and then get up at 6 in the morning for PT.!!
You will find that you structure your life to suit the environment and your needs.!!

You will find that doing PT at that unearthly hour, actually sets you up for the day. You will do about half an hour of hard work - go back to the "grot", have a shower, go and eat a hearty breakfast and then you will feel refreshed for the rest of the day. It will become a habit, especial...

Chas My squad number isn't an item for National Security. I was 714 Squad. Joined 28th. of January 1959! A very good year!! I can't remember who my squad officer is but I can remember who the DL was!! It was Alfie Laming. The "rear rank instructor" was John Jackson known throughout the Cor...

If I remember correctly, " Operation Market Garden" was the Para assault at Arnhem. I can't remember what the St Nazaire raid was called but it was some bloody effort. I seem to remember a destroyer called HMS Campbeltown being rammed into ithe entrance to the harbour filled with explosive...

I can't fault Anglo Saxon's or Artist's definition, but to my mind it is a two way thing. Yes, the Senior NCO has a lot to give to the young Subby!! But the young Subby has to be in a condition of mind to receive that advice. I have had both. One was will;ing to learn - the other wasn't Most young o...

4 inches in a pine block underwater sounds a bit lethal!! We didn't even experiment with spear guns seriously, at all, except for fishing!! We didn't really expect to see any "opponents", underwater at all! (Unlike the James Bond films!!) The only reason for carrying the Webley - (and a co...

We stiil used this in the sixties, - out in Singers/Borneo in 64/65. It was ideal for use as a personal weapon when on swimming ops.! We would carry it in a holster, just like the cowboys we were!! ( I thought I would get that in early!!). It proved to work better than the 9mm Browning, as the water...
