Its interesting though every time I've gone over to the States or Canada you see people with national flags just outside the front door or on their lawn, I've always wondered why we don't over here. Saying that they probably wont last long as they would only get get damaged or nicked.

I wouldn't think there would a problem with your application.
i think what it comes down to is, if did make a commitment to the Army, what was your reasons of leaving the army or why did you get discharged, i'm sure you would have to say that you applied to the army in application ...
