Nah AC, I postponed my PEDA, doing it later in the year. I wasn't happy with my fitness, had been sick in the few weeks before the acquaint.

Cheers Shrek

Going back to SA just before basic starts, so reckon I'll bring some through anyway and keep them in storage at my girl's place.

Was wondering about the vests after seeing a thread on the Arrse forums saying that the Army blokes loved the SA vests, but that there were also alot of ...

Assault Vests

I'm shortly to be joining the Navy, not Marines, but have heard from alot of Army blokes that South African Assault Vests are quite popular amongst UK troops.

Is this the case in the Marines too? I've still got all my brothers' kit, and access to a few of their army buddies, all of whom still have ...

This may vaguely help with your question Tyrone:

I'm not entirely sure, but I think there was an intake last Sept, and one now in Feb, so they'd probably have the intakes at the same time every year. That's just an assumption, but you may be looking at waiting till Sept if your acquaint's only in ...

Am a bit of the way into my application, got a UK and SA passport, and this hasn't been a problem.

SA gov't is trying to stop its citizens joining foreign militaries, but UK Foreign & Commonwealth office has appealed this saying it's the historic right of Commonweath members to serve in HM Forces ...

Saffa's

I'm a South African, about to join the Royal Navy.

Was just wondering, are there a lot of Saffa matelots, or will I be very much in the minority? Going in as a clearance diver.

What's the general impression of us? Chance-taking journeymen, or valuable contributors? Heard of alot of us scum in the ...

They gave me the option of doing the Feb acquaint, but I turned it down cos I just don't think I'll be fit enough by then. Been helluva lazy over the xmas period and all that...

Anyone know how often the acquaints come along? I hope the next one's not bloody September, I'll be gutted.

No different for Canadians. Absolutely sure of this.

Go to the careers office at the Haymarket end of Prince's street, just after the Somerfields. I applied through them, and they were very helpful and accommodating. You are perfectly entitled to go in there on a fact-finding visit, you don't have ...

Funnies

A young Clearance Diver paid off and moved to London and went to Harrods looking for a job.

The manager asked "Do you have any sales experience?"

The young man answered "Not really, but I reckon I can handle it."

The manager liked the Bubblehead so he gave him the job.

His first day on the job ...

Yes, entry requirements have now changed. People from all arms can join, but most are still from RM. Heard there are a few Clearance Divers in as well.

You must be a discharged bankrupt, and must present them with proof of discharge. Think most people become such 1yr after being declared bankrupt, at least that's what happened with me.

On the MOD websites it states that Commonwealth citizens must have lived in the UK for at least 5yrs. This figure is in fact 3yrs in practice, but they are willing to waiver this if you get a serving member of the British armed forces to write you a letter of recommendation. This person does not ...
