There are hundreds of running training programs about, so I wont go into that, but the main thing I'd recommend (despite it sounding obvious) is to really, really push hard on every session.

The fitness was tough for me, I struggled with running, much preferred the tabbing!

You seem to have some wierd idea that only Infantry do "Real Soldiering" which firstly is insulting to say the least, secondly just because your not Infantry does not mean your sat in a secure location miles away from the fighting!!!
