Havent been in for ages due to one thing and another. Well, there is life after OASC, have just completed my teacher training and am now a fully fledged teacher bod now. Come off medication in 2 months and then have to wait for more tests to be done to see if I have to go back on it ...

Sad and reluctant farewell
Hi All,
I havent posted for a while as I have been waiting to go back to OASC at Cranwell due to my teacher training finishing. Anyhow, I have had a sequence of unfortunate events this last week which started in training. I thought I had torn a muscle but after seeing my leg swell like a balloon ...

Tests
The apptitude tests are something that are hard to practice for, you either have a natural apptitude for them or you dont. The tests cover areas like grid co-ordinates; they set you off from a point, give you a set of grid co-ordinates and you have to work out where you end up, pictures of hawks at ...

Numbers they are a falling !
What I have heard is that the RAF needs to reduce personnel to around the 41-42,000 mark by the end of next year to bring them in line for 2008.
Apparently they cannot achieve this through natural wastage, hence the need for another set of redundancies. By all accounts some of the AFCO's have ...

Reduction in numbers
What I have heard through a friend of a friend who is serving is that redundancies are being offered again as the RAF want to cut numbers even further to the 47-48,000 mark. They currently stand at around 53,000.
Anyone know if this 'rumour' is true or not as it will obviously affect recruiting once ...

Reduction in numbers again ?
Just a quick one, I have heard that numbers may be cut again ie redundancies could be offered to those serving. Apparently they are looking to get numbers down to the late 40,000's.
Can anyone tell me if there is any truth in this rumour ?.

Re-application
Hi Biggles,
I went to OASC in June 2004 and was kept in competition till January 2005. I was asked to re-apply in June 2005, but was advised by AFCO to complete my NQT year and that finishes in July 2006.
This would put me as a dual qualified entrant i.e. Engineering and Training.
My plan is to ...

Too old !
Thanks for the message mathilda,
I have been told to call back later in the year to find out the situation with recruiting. Your right, if they want you they'll overlook certain criteria !.
I havent given up hope yet as I very narrowly missed out on a spot last time. I have broadened my horizons ...

Upper age limit
Just managed to speak to someone through the RAF careers number, they say the age limit has been lowered due to pensions !.
The only advice they gave me was to get in touch with my AFCO PDQ !!.
Still leaves one problem, Training officers are NOT a priority branch at the moment !.

Upper age limit for Officers
I keep on popping in and looking at both this and the RAF careers website.
Imagine to my horror, that the RAF has just lowered their upper age limit for all ground branches for Officers. It used to stand at 38, but now stands at 36.
I was requested to go back to OASC this june but was advised by ...

wrong info
Gentlemen, what can I say, looks like I am guilty as charged, but if I may offer something in my defence.
My information came from a contact who is leaving Lossiemouth very soon to join the Marham crew. This information is what they were told by their bosses. As the said person is an NCO with many ...

Misinformation
Please read my quote carefully, I did say potentially with Brize Norton.
Not to be pedantic or anything but, Lossiemouth will be left with 15 personnel after the end of this September. I agree this is not strictly closed but when you look back at the amount of personnel there prior to this, it may ...

OASC Process
I had two legal officer wanabees on my OASC last year and they went through the whole process. So no escaping whatever branch you choose.
One thing to contemplate, the RAF is restructuring and an awful lot of bases are closing with more in the pipeline (ie, Lossiemouth next month and potentially ...

How tough is OASC ?
Speaking from experience, you were right to quote OASC as 'really tough'.
Unless you go there fully prepared as in both mentally and physically, dont go any further with your application. Selection is really tough, one guy got booted at interview at Cranwell because he didnt have enough military ...
