I have to agree with marinewannabe, if you really want to be in- then you'll do it! I'm not thew greatest with heights, but i'm just gonna do it.

I'm guessing that if any of the lads in the regiment were to tell you, they would all say: "shit that looks high, come on then!"

As the officer said to ...

Surely instead of using the assault course, they'll go and build another piece of apparatus which does what the trainasium did. I.e replace it, or would that not be a likely thing to happen?? Just a thought.

I'd agree with what the other guys have said, when i said i wanted to join the Paras. All the guys at the AFCO tried to steer me away from it, saying you don't seem the type or that i should go for their regiment (Signals... not quite the same). But when I said; No. That's what i want to do, they ...

i have to agree with jumpfreak. Get yourself on that insight course and they'll let you know what you need to be able to do and get you in the right frame of mind.

Reading Material

I've just started reading a book about Goose Green as i thought it looked an informative read and i'm very interested in the history of the parachute regiment too.

Any suggestions on good reads out there, based on facts not a fanciful story?

What i seem to have been told is that you get £50 a week or less if you say that you don't want that much (£200 every two weeks figures), but is it really true that you don't get the rest of the money through until the 8weeks? (Am i right in thinking it's about £200 per week after deductions ...

i think i might have to give the mixed grip and moving head in fron t and behind.

I'm currently doing about 10-12 underhand grip. what kind of number is a good standard to be happy at? Or should that just be as many as you'll ever be able to do??

Cheers, Chris

I'm 20 so not the most mature in the world, but was just wondering as i remember the AFCO saying that they sometimes send people to selection in groups by age. I have no issues whatsoever with different ages.

It may even make me feel old if there are a few 17 year olds in my platoon!! :P

On the topic of ages; when you go to depot, do you get formed up with other lads of the same age. Or is it just a case of, you get put with the other 59 guys who passed selection and enter training on the same date as you?

Have they increased the age because they have realised that people up to that age are still perfectly capable, or is it just a case of needing more people in the regiment?

The more i find out about the services and what the lads go through in training and then what they do when they get there. I find it really hard to understand how you can slate anyone one for being rubbish!
