I agree, you may get frustrated with URNU as it will probably focus around the RN. The OTC is quite green and is quite good fun, so you will learn about soldiering albeit in a basic form and will enable yourself to make a more informed decision regarding a career in the RM. In the OTC you will meet ...

Hello mate, I graduated from uni last June. I did OTC in my first year, quit this and did RMR through my 2nd year completing the phase 1 course. I had to do the RT for the RMR back in March 2006, I passed for recruit, however, when I started my application for YO 09 in the summer of 2008 I was told ...

A good one to learn would be the effect of the death of Benazir Bhutto to Pakistans democracy aspirations, in relation to the Wests efforts on the war on teror.

Globe and Laurel & Navy News for RM stuff.

The Economist, the Journal of Current Affairs and any firm daily broadsheet (in particular the opinions section- this will help you to articulate yourself) should be suffice.

Go balls out for a good month before POC.

best

sprint training is of high importance and it actually gets you fitter than just doing a 45 min plod 4 times a week, because it raises your heart rate higher and into the coveted 'training zone!' However, sprinting is not advised in the early stages of running, ease your body into running slowly. Do ...

Seeing this gave me the impulse to ask you artist if you knew my uncle, Capt John Robinson? He passed out of YO training in 1968 and served until 1985. If this means anything to you-he was the one who tried to build a boat whilst at 42 to sail to New Zealand - he was sadly asked to cease his buildin...

Alright mate If you want to be an officer straight after uni, the first thing you should do is think when is the best time to do a POC and AIB? September, December, March? Then apply 6 months before your desired POC time, giving you enough time to get your application sorted. Batch selection runs fr...

Seriously though mate, if the reserves were as good or better than the regs than something has clearly gone wrong! A reservist mirrors recruit training to a lesser degree, however he must do his training outside of work hours and balance it with a family life. Not easy. A reservist needs a lot of se...

I dont think its chris terrils fault, he had the right idea by getting amongst some of the training which is why i thought '55year old commando' was awesome. However ITV have clearly tailored it and attempted to make it into a drama of will Terry make it or won't he. Also making it quite comical in ...

I was told it was valid for only 3 years and the system went live on August 1st. If I had applied in June I wouldnt be in this situation. This test may put some off the RMR which is a shame because it is so good for potential regular officers/marines. I was also told that their has been over 50% fai...

Gents, Im in the RMR and am 3rd year of uni so am in the midst of applying for next Septembers officer batch. However, a couple of months ago Royal introduced an intial psychometic test for potential officers to be done at the AFCO before the informal interviews begin. Occifer candidates only get 2 ...

With OTC theres core weekends you must attend, others are optional and no it shouldnt take up too much time as theres no in your own time phys to do. Cricket wise-yeh go play for uni and maybe theres a cricket team in your OTC. Doing OTC in your first year shouldnt infringe on leisure time- 1st year...

In case you dont, try getting day/night lenses- it will make your weekends a lot easier.
I also brought some refresher eye drops in my jacket pocket too- just in case mud got in them-the drops would flush anything out.
