Make sure that you're doing things the RM way, as well, i.e. pull ups with your palms facing away, press ups with a narrow stance (not with your hands out wide of your body), sit ups with elbows from floor to knees.

You don't want to get a nasty surprise when you get to CTCRM, now do you!?

Thanks everybody.

Unfortuantely I can't do anything with "every hour" in it as I don't think it would go down well in the office!

The pyramids and weights sound like something that I can try though. I'll give them a go.

Thanks again for the tips.

Press Up Plateau

My usual routine of 3 sets of press ups and increasing the number of reps each week, doesn't seem to be working anymore. Over the last two weeks, I've struggled to reach the target I met three weeks ago!

I was thinking of completing the same number of total reps over a greater number of sets, i.e ...

Commando Challenge

I'm not sure if you all know this already but I came across a charity event that makes use of the RM assault course. Sounds like fun :o

I've had a similar weakness. I took a weekend membership at a local gym and got one of the instructors to design a workout to complement the RM fitness schedule.

I now do 1 session a week, solely on my upper body and I've noticed the difference in the number of pressups pretty much straight away ...

The RM schedule recommends doing the press ups/sit ups in the morning and the CV work in the afternon...but I'm not sure why this is?!?!!? :o

gtsco, Good luck mate! 10 hour night shifts plus training is going to be hard work to get into...but (and I'm not speaking from experience here) I should imagine that so long as you're getting enough rest for your body to recuperate between sessions while you build up, eating sensibly and working ...

Similar situation

Hi guys. I've been in a similar situation recently. I had my heart set on joining as an officer, but my AFCO had mis-advised me about the age limits for POC and I was too old by a couple of months. Gutted isn't the word.

After thinking I wasn't interested if I couldn't be an officer (looking back I ...

I took a look at the link as well and should point out that the information is different to whatothers have posted on here before. A search will bring up the posts but I would also use www.mfat.co.uk and follow the links on the left to the RM articles and then the fitness schedules.

Differences I ...

Don't forget that the Battle Swim Test at PRMC is not actually tested so you don't have to complete the tasks. Its designed to give you a taster of whats required during training. If you can't swim very well (and I shouldn't have thought turning up not being able to swim at all was a very good idea ...

I'm reading Richard Brooks' "History of the Royal Marines". It can be quite tough going in the first half of the book but it gets better as the book goes on and gives you a good feel for what the history actually means which raw dates cannot do. Some of the anecdotes are great reading.

7 out of 10 ...

Useful website

Just to say that I found www.royalmarines.org today which has good sections on memorable dates and bootneck slang!

I'm probably last to find it, but just in case!
