smoking on subs
You can, they have a small usually very cramped room where you can smoke. Last i heard only 2 guys can smoke at the same time to preserve the atmosphere on the boat. The issue is at the CO's discretion. Good way to cut back i suppose.

TA Direct officer entry
Does anyone have any information about this new scheme? The TA website is pretty useless on the subject. Im also interested in timescales, apparently you start your training to be officer straight away now if you want to, do you have to attend the TCB first before you do anything?

Ask your liaison officer/AFCO they get sent a report from AIB. They should be able to give you a fair idea.

The eyesight standard is not particuarly high. I asked about this at the AIB medical and i think the doc said something around -3.5 Dioptres as the limit of correction. Warfare officer is -2.5 I dont know about the visual acuity standard but they are usually comparable with the limits of correction ...

Officer options
Submarine warfare officer is one of the least popular branch choices, most seem to want to go to the major surface vessels. The Navy is also short of Engineer officers and Mine clearance diver officers (MCDO). They tend to throw money at problems like this. Financial incentives have been offered to ...

I think on the planning ex the speeds were in miles. I dont think they give you a combination thats just cruel... Dont go by the example they send you, the real one is alot more complex. Prepare yourself mentally for a grilling, most people do not enjoy this part of the AIB but if you know what to ...

There is a long questionnaire asking if you have ever had diseases and conditions of all kinds. Common problems are asthma, visual problems (short sight), hearing. Due ...

Harriers
If you want to work on Harriers you will be able to do it the navy. The harriers are to be flown by a mixture of RAF and RN pilots. The groundcrew will also be a mixture of RAF and RN, serving onboard the carriers whilst at sea and at RAF bases whilst ashore. The current harrier bases i think are ...
