Yep, crossed rifles mean marksman, a title that means you achieved a high score in your APWT that year. An `S` in the middle means sniper. The badge was worn on the lower left sleeve. If the sniper badge was worn on the upper arm above the Cpl or Sgt stripes it denoted `Instructor`. Well it was back...

Last Thursday I was part of the VIP protection team, for the DDay ceremony at Portsmouth. The best part of the whole afternoon was watching 750 veterans march on and take a salute from HRH The Prince of Wales. Each of them marched bolt upright, stiff backed and instep. A few had tears in their eyes....
