Mine was on a Main road, running face on to traffic trying to dodge the cars, but i can only say about pirbright.(those guys put you through your paces)

Thats just damn nasty.
Regarding run time anything 11:30 or under will pass you for any trade except Para's.
Try to aim for 8 or more heaves (pull ups)
I'm joining as a driver also and passed my selection.
My run time was 10:50 and i did 9 heaves.

But theres a lot more to selection than just a run.

Just remember that although the first 6 months of your army life will be away from home a lot if you plan on marrying her you both will be posted to your regiment together and a start of a very good life for the both of you,

This was my 2 day selection at ADSC Pirbright it will more than likely differ from base to base, but none the less hope its a little insight to the new entrants hoping to starts theres soon.

Phones are allowed but there will be a pay phone at the adsc ( if any ever work )
Take one so you can ring your family once you get your results at the end of selection.

One Last thing, don't forget to take a water bottle with you and you can take your mobile but can only use it in the evening.

ADSC- What to expect!!

Day 1:

9:00am.
Arrived at the station for pick up, coach was already there ready for all new selection recruits to board.

9:30am
Arrived in base, then taken into the adsc reception area where we are issued a number and for 2 days your name is not important you are now known as a number.

Ticktock22 is right, you don't want to pick up an injury so close to selection by pushing yourself so hard.
As long as you get under 11:30 you will pass the run in any trade you want for the army.
