Don't know if you've considered the Army, but you can go for a commission up to the age of 29. You have to start at Sandhurst by 29, and the process can be drawn out, so best to apply by 27. Anyway, you're within that limit. I don't know enough about transfers to the Marines/All Arms Commando Course...

Thanks mate, and congratulations on getting past the first hurdle! I'll have to get off my arse and speak to the AFCO regarding commisions for the over-26's then - I'd blithely assumed it wasn't going to happen. But it was only recently that they jacked up the max entry age to 32, wasn't it. So I gu...

Re: YO Age limits
Otherwise I can apply PRMC, though it seems bloody insane that you can do that until 32 then try for a commision afterwards, but not apply via POC after 26. Is this correct? You can go through PRMC (theoretically) at 32, then try for a commission? In other words, is it possible to get a commission ...

Your pay in the legion depends on the regiment you're serving with, where you're serving and your rank. So if you're in 2REP, stationed at Calvi (Corsica) you'd get more than someone stationed in mainland France, but less than someone in 13 DBLE, stationed in Djibouti. According to the legion's recr...

That's right, the legion took part in the first Gulf War - they were tasked with securing the western flank of the coalition advance. After it ended, they made Norman Schwarzkopf an honorary legionnaire. I saw an interview with him, where he said they gave him a card, with a phone number on it, tell...

Redhand mate I think you'd be advised against it - Once you've signed up (assuming you're accepted) you don't have any contact with the outside world for up to four months... no phone calls, letters - nothing. If your family comes looking for you, they'll be politely turned away. After the initial p...
