It depends on just how bad your eyes are, but it is entirely possible to shoot very well with metallic sights and less than perfect vision. Listen to your instructors.

Thanks Tab, I didn't see yours before I sent my post.
The bottle opener would have been very welcome when I first learned that 'twist off' bottle caps were somewhat unique to the U.S., I was able to adapt though.

For those of you that actually know what you're talking about and have experience with the SA-80 and M16(family), how do they compare?. I've read about the SA-80 and know there have been some problems ...
