Hunter lads do have the most fun ashore. The whole company has got long weekend leave and we've been given Bank Holiday Monday off too, hoofin and thats after a weeks adventure training too. :P

It was 880 with the Rocky tune, I watched the Kings Squad it was a hoofin day but I had a tear in my eye in the Falklands Hall watching the 12 Originals and 12 other lads receive their Green Berets.

On the Tuesday morning you lay a kit muster in the drill shed, then run a 4 mile speed march with 21lb + weapon. Then you go to Woodbury common to start the main tests which consitst of.

Ex Baptist Run

A little update for you guys. Just passed Exercise Baptist Run this week 886 (after being in Hunter since October) and on my long weekend leave. Just seen my old troop 880 come off final ex. Half way there now :D .

I'm having a hoofin leave catching up with old mates I haven't seen for ages, drinking far too much and trapping rats birds in town :D .

Not looking forward to going back being in Hunter still, but my foot's healed now so I should hopefully make it ...

Do it. It's better to go there not 100% than not go at all. You'll be fine. Don't worry about the gym test, you won't get binned if you have a bad performance.

On the subject of laser eye surgery. A lad on my PRMC had LES and he passed out yesterday so it can't do much harm.

I found 100m the hardest (took me 6 attempts to pass) as its standing and kneeling (and I couldn't kneel comfortably because of my injury) and also on Dartmoor wind wind is very strong to say the least. I passed 200m 1st time, 300m 3rd and 400m 1st time.

You get taught the marksmanship principles ...

At some of the ranges you start 5m back then when the target pops up you have a few seconds to run forward and adopt the relevent fire position and shoot. But nothing more than that because of safety reasons there will be up to 11 other guys standing next to you.

I can answer that if you like. Its done weeks 11 and 12, It involves 100m, 200m, 300m, 400m shoots in various fire positions prone, kneeling un/supported, sitting, fire trench and standing. All done with SUSAT sights. You used to do a criteria iron sight shoot but now it isn't criteria just practice ...

You do your first yomp in week two with fighting order (21lbs) minus your rifle (4 miles), week 7 its done with 45lbs and rifle (4 miles), week 10 we did about 4 miles with 69lbs. Speed marching is around 10 min/miles with 21lbs and rifle.
