The "Doors"

I was wondering why the American Humvee's (and also Spanish or Italian vehicle's) in Iraq have often no doors. I mean the men in the vehicle would be more protected against bullets or even rpg's if it had doors.

Has somebody the answer?

At the moment I am reading James Lucas' book Kommando about German special forces in WW2. Big part of this book is about these Brandenburgers , who were involved in many operations. For example in the invasion of Holland and Belgium ('40), Battle of the Bulge ('44) and anti-partisan operations in ...

Germans in charge!
I think there's nothing wrong with it.

In Iraq the Dutch marines are under the command of the British. Are these Dutch guys complaining of even deserting? No, why should they if the British officers do their job.

The Dutch are leading the UN force in Afganistan.

The smaller ...

One of the problems of operation Mercury was the lack of Junkers to transport the men to Crete. The result of this was that the Jaeger were dropped in 2 waves.
The 7th Divison brought in around 22,000 men, more than 3000 were killed and another 3000 were wounded.

Storming Eagles spends 20 pages on ...

They were very good soldiers. Author James Lucas, who fought against them in N. Africa, writes with respect about them.

But this is a good thing, it didn't really tell you anything that isn't really common knowledge/common sense
That's right.

They lost already 2 team members so it is not a "we are inviolable" story. It's a good programme and watch also next week.

Storming Eagles: German Airborne Forces in WW2 - James Lucas

I readed the Cassell Military Paperback version of Storming Eagles (ISBN 0-304-35854-1, 185 pag, around 10 Euro). Author James Lucas tells the story of the German airborne force in WW2: the FallschirmJaeger.
The book starts with the history of airborne troops and the foundation of the precurser of ...
