I was a member of the Royal Marine Detachment on HMS Tiger which was in Cardiff at the time.

The Detachment was sent to assist. but there was little we could do, except help in the recovery of those poor little kids and their teachers.

Something I will never forget.

Very sad news indeed Mike. I had the privilege of serving with both Jock and Piggy with the RM Detacnment on HMS Tiger. They were both characters in their own right and bloody good run ashore oppos.

I very seldom venture from the Retreat or Bunker and your post reminds me why .

As a former serving Royal Marine, I too served with pride in many conflicts around the world and most of the places I served in I can't Farkin spell either.
