September time,-remember, all,
Remember as the brown leaves fall-
The Dead at ARNHEM

September, every rainy day,
Remember,- when the skies turn grey
The Dead at ARNHEM

September,-shrine of every man,
Who fought and died- all those
Who died at ARNHEM

September wrote this bloody tale
September will remember them
The Dead at ARNHEM

Lest we forget.

Citizen of Arnhem 1981-2002
"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

I met someone who was in the Airborne brigade who was at arhnem. He was cut off by the germans and hid in a potato sack. He remembers hearing the germans enter the house he was in and look around, but they never caught him. He found his way back to friendly lines eventually. An amazing story. And of course, at the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.

Sixty years ago today saw the first landings of Operation Market Garden.

Remembering all those British, American and Polish airborne forces who never returned.

They will never be forgotten.

The action of the Paras at Arnhem is one of grit, bravery & courage against all the odds and personifies all that British Airborne Forces are renowned for. I will certainly be thinking of them over the next couple of days. The events in Holland over the weekend will be the last time that the veterans gather for such a big occasion, and I hope they have a terrific time of it, although I imagine it will be a pretty emotional one too.

Is there any kind of memorial being planned in the UK at all?

I was privileged enough to jump into Arnhem a few years ago as part of the anniversary celebrations. Whilst on parade waiting for the service, some old and bold were parachuting (on their own) using steerables. One of them made a terrifyingly fast landing, tumbling head over heels. The crowd of civvies and squaddies alike all gasped thinking as I did " Jesus he's killed himself"
The guy got up dusted himself down and wiped the blood from his face and smartly marched to the memorial and saluted. His comment to the mayor of Arnhem was "At least no ones firing at me this time"
What a bloke, what a bunch of heroes.

My thoughts exactly. Makes you proud to be British.
