I doubt you'll get many posts here. Those that tend to earn the medals aren't the kinds of people who brag.

Thats another thing that gets me, people who collect medals, shoulder flashes and things like that. WHY?? They haven't earned them, what are they going to do with them, show them to their grandchildren and when they ask what they did to get them, "Ah, well, I got a good deal on this one, the bloke on ebay gave me discount..."

Walters.

When people left my cadets they kept their capbadge off their berets. When I had to leave, I handed it in, my CO asked me why and I told him that I hadnt earnt it.
He said that was one of the most mature things he's heard since being CO cadets.

Sorry about the previous text.

Out of order and once again sorry, Have Medals or did have medals but sold them when Wife was suffering from the dreaded "C" about 12 years ago. So I could drive her to Christies everyday. Had to Jack in work so no income.

I'm happy to tell you my medal collection.
1. General Service Medal. Borneo and NI clasp.
2. LSGC Medal.
I don't think I've got any others - and I spent 20 years with the SBS!!!

20 metre swimming medal when I was 8.

That's it.

Sort of peaked early in life.

Geez you guys,

don't be so hard on em.

But it is true that most hardened soldiers could care less about medals, infact, history shows that they resented them in many cases.

Cue the myriad of stories of Vietnam veterans (to name but one instance) returning their medals post-war... John Kerry included.

Maybe so Peds,

Wasn't referring to specifically that though..

was referring to alot of the stuff i've read about front line action in WWII. Where alot of guys resented the medals.

Ah fair enough.

I've posted this once before, but here seems a relevant enough place for a second appearance.
