Suicide bombers killing kiddies in southern Russia...
Don't know how many of you lot have seen whats going on with the hostage crisis in Southern Russia - they stormed the school after some of the bombers opened fire on kids (!!!!) trying to escape the main hall!
Then I turn it over to BBC and there is some expert on terrorism going 'the world has no choice but to negotiate with suicide bombers otherwise its just going to create more of them'.
Oh f***ing great - in other words anyone who is prepared to use brute force and take kids hostage will be able to get what they want? I THINK NOT!!! I'm just so bloody pissed off that these stinking cowards opened fire on those kids......I can't put into words how mad I am at the moment...............
I hope the Russian Spetsnaz kill every last one of the c***ts!

I saw that too, on my lunch break. The information source was the Russian military, though, wasn't it? They would say that, wouldn't they? The chechnyans said that hostages would be killed if they attacked. The whole thing has gone tits-up.
I'm not saying it isn't true, but was there any witnesses that saw the chechnyans shooting the kids?
Either way, the chechnyans deserve to get it. Targeting a school is as low as you can get. But should the military really have gone in there, causing more hostages to die?

Nope, it is true seen the footage. Kids were covered with blood (been shot in the legs). As soon as the Russians moved in all hell broke loose - they blew the hall roof up and killed 100+ adults.
Seems the women bombers blew themselves up on the first night, 5 bombers are confirmed killed in the first contact but the 10+ (?) that are left have pulled back to a different building.
Also reports that some of the bombers may have fleed the scene when all the panic broke out.

So it's true? The sick f**ks.
It's hard to say what's the best thing to do in a situation like that. It'd be tempting to go in there guns blazing, but surely that would mean more hostages die? I'm glad it's not me making that decision.
Don't the russians have any SF trained for this kind of situation?

It's not that russians like to 'botch things up', they simply have less regard for life than westerners. Thats traditionally Russian. The attitude dates back to the tzars, mongels, etc etc.
But what also is traditionally russian is adoration for their children, i think you will see massive and brutal reprisals for this. In any case, so there should be.
This link should help update the situation.

Chechen Rebel Attacks
I don't believe you can call the Russian action botched, there are hard choices to be made and this is not the "Iranian Embassy" siege, the Chechens especially the women are prolific suicide bombers, the number of IEDs seen inside the theatre siege are testament to this, and that was a success by the way many of the theatre hostages survived, I can't remember the percentage off the top of my head but it was above 50%.
The Russians are facing a determined, fanatical enemy who are adapting to their methods, did you note the windows in the school were smashed by the Chechens to prevent a similar gas attack? I say good luck to the Russians, unlucky on the dead and commiseration's to their families, but then the answer is take the fight to the enemy!!!

That’s total crap. It doesn’t matter where you come from on this planet, you don’t value each other’s life less just because you come from the eastern side of the globe.Redhand wrote:It's not that russians like to 'botch things up', they simply have less regard for life than westerners. The Russian military commander said they had no plan for an entry, and when all hell broke loose and they did the best they could.
Russia has suffered five terrorist attacks in five days, but this has to be the worst, they are kids, kids are innocent!!! I hope Russia will not let them get away with this!!!
It makes me sick.

This must be the nightmare for any CT unit; around a thousand children and adults locked in a tight space. I wonder if any of the western CT units would have done any better.
Apparantly some of the weapons and explosives were already stashed in the school before the situation started. They also had mines, RPG's and other things that go boom.

Now this incident brings up many questions, well for it does.
Why was this school chosen for this form action?
Now these places are not chosen at random, so who passed on the information, and why.
Now a terrorist will die for his cause, but he prefers to live even if it is just to rub the governments nose in it. So if this is case they must have had an escape route planned.
On the Military side there was so much wrong that whole thing developed into a farce.
Why wasn't the whole area cordoned of with barb wire, with gaps in it for controlled exit.
Why wasn't there a second cordon to keep the parents back.
Where was the field hospitals incase things went pear shape
The same applies for the Fire Brigade.
Why where camera's right up the front with the troops, now you could tell at a glance what sort of troops you where facing, by looking at the APC you could see that the machine guns were not loaded or manned, there did not appear to be any other crew around them in case they where needed. Any terrorist watching television would have a pretty good idea just where he could go and what to do.
The Russian President is normally in front of the camera's like all the other politicians, but this time was missing for the whole time, I think that their Army Generals are going to take one big hit over this.
Now what about TASS the Russian News agency, well what muck up thats been, not only over this but on the two Russian airliners that crashed earlier on this week.

There was a documentary last year where some scientists managed to work out what the gas was, and from that they discovered that the people died not from gas poisoning, but from asphyxiation. This was apparently because the gas knocked them unconscious really quickly, and their heads slumped forward, cutting off their airways.
But anyhow...
There doesn't seem to have been anything else the Russian forces could have done, the situation was exacerbated by the escape of some of the hostages. The Chechyens fired on defenceless children who had managed to get away from them, and it's fairly safe odds they would have taken it out on the people they still held captive.

I dont normally post on these kind of threads, but I happened to be listening to the radio when it all kicked off and then sat in front of the telly for most of the day,as a parent I'm not ashamed to say that I was moved to tears at the sight of little uns covered in blood running for cover in just there underwear. I'm sure that there are many here who felt , as I did, so utterly useless and frustrated, watching the ensuing chaos unfold.
Sadly I feel that this is not the last spectacle of this sort that we will see, and that this is the kind of tactics that terrorists will use in the future, and maybe it wont be half way around the world but right here on our doorstep, i so hope that it doesn't.
Thats my bit said,

No defence for the indefencible. I felt the same way you did blodwyn and I'm not a parent myself. Why do these terrorists do this. What do they ever achieve?blodwyn wrote: I'm sure that there are many here who felt , as I did, so utterly useless and frustrated, watching the ensuing chaos unfold.

Well what support wherever Chechnyia may have had before for their cause will surely dissolve rapidly now.
All acts of terrorism are to be deplored, but as others on here have said, it appears to be reaching a new low.
People who will commit such sickening acts of violence against totally defenceless victims will stop at nothing.
And what will they have to show for it?
It's just beyond my comprehension I'm afraid..totally
Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence....
