Please sponsor me: 300 mile walk for Cancer Research

Post by AC »

Hello all,

This summer (July -> August) I am undertaking a sponsored walk across the Pennine way on behalf of Cancer research.

For anyone unfamiliar with the Pennine way here’s a brief description;

The Pennine way is a 270-mile walk (closer to 300 with meandering trails) that will take you from the Peak District National Park along the Pennine ridge through the Yorkshire Dales, up into Northumberland, across the Cheviots, setting you down in the Scottish Borders.

It basically runs along the backbone of Britain climbing to a maximum of 2947 ft (Cross Fell) along the way.

I aim to take 14 days maximum to complete this journey (roughly 25 miles walking per day), but may do it in less time or take a little longer if the weather and underfoot conditions are particularly bad.

The reason I post here is to ask anyone who can spare a little cash to sponsor me in my undertaking of this challenge for Cancer Research. Anything at all will be appreciated, so don’t shy away even if it’s just a couple of quid.

If you would like to sponsor me please post here saying how much you’d like to sponsor me (this will allow me to keep track of sponsorship easily).
No money will be collected until the walk is complete, but I’m starting early to try and earn maximum sponsorship for the charity.

Anyway, thanks kindly for anything you can give.

Cheers,
Andy :)

Edit: Forgot to mention, i'll be carrying everything I need bar the 14 days worth of food. Hopefully, i'll get food resupplies, meaning I only have to carry 5 days worth of food before I get another 5 days resup.

Also, if anybody does decide to sponsor me, sponsorship money would have to be in the form of cheques payable to Cancer Research and would be collected after completion of the walk. I will be keeping a diary and taking piccies. Thanks for your attention :)

Goldie, much appreciated mate. Sorry to hear you didn't get much support :( - but at least we're making the effort - every little counts and all.

Andy,

Put me down for a tenner. I'll spread the word here in case we don't get a visit from you before then.

I'll give you a tenner mate - just have to remind me nearer the time as I'm terrible at remembering about these things.

Good luck!

Walk for Cancer Research

Post by df2inaus »

I'm in as well for a tenner. Good luck and enjoy the walk. I lost my Dad to cancer in January. How do we send you this money, though?

Thanks again for the donations guys - we're really cracking on now!

I should hopefully get a small website running in the next few days so you can learn a bit more about what i'm going to do.

DF2 - Sorry to hear about your dad mate. You can send me the money through the post, in the form of a Cheque made payable to "Cancer Research". I'm just taking names at the moment, and will chase everyone up after completing the walk.

Thanks for the support guys and gals :D

Liver, Hi mate - all you'd have to do is make a cheque payable to Cancer Research and post it to me :)

Webpage for this is now live and kicking. Go to http://www.brit-kit.co.uk and click on the link above the title image.

Andy,
I'll send you something.
Prob is I live in the US so there may bank charges for turning $US into
Pounds Sterling.I'm not sure of the current exchange rate, but I'm sure I can manage a tenner.
Wholley.
