I dont get it...

Post by Maverick00 »

...I was out on the beers last night with my mates and I met some new people, it came up in conversation that after I graduated I wanted to join the armed forces. Lo and behold an ugly, self-opinionated anti-war arty-type girl appeared and started hurling abuse at me, asking why I wanted to go and kill people etc etc. Now I know this has been covered before but I've never had it happen to me until now.

I was totally shocked at the ignorance of some people, or maybe naivety. She seemed to think if everyone just downed tools in the armed forces then all would be well in the world and no-one would fight. Obviously we ended up talking about Iraq, I tried to explain that you can't just walk away from the place due to power vacuum etc etc and she just didnt want to know. In her rosy little bubble of a world if we left the Iraqis to their own devices all would be well.

I dont understand how, in our society today, people can be so ignorant and so disrespectful to soldiers past, present and future. Thankfully it doesnt put me off the job because I dont want to do it for respect. I just think guys that have lost family and close mates through doing what has to be done must find it very difficult. I find it astonishing how people take their pampered lifestyle for granted. I'd love to see her say what she said to me to a WWII veteran.

Sorry for the rant, just had to get it off my chest!

Everyone is allowed their own opinion.

Anti soldier ones are just wrong
She wouldnt be complaining if somebody invaded us would she! She'd become the complete opposite!

Arty type people (not always) are anti war. Around me they are. Loads of family friends are all giving me jip about joining.

Silly cowbag.

Idiots really. Pacifists, CND campaigners, anarchists, communits. They dont think things through enough to realise the necessity of what they are campaigning against.

Thats exactly it Jon, they never seem to be able to see past the luxuries provided for them by modern living. It worries me that so many people have this 'living in a bubble' syndrome. What's ironic is that the guys/girls putting themselves in the firing line are doing it so that everyone else can stay nice n cosy in that bubble! Oh well, the way I see it someone has to do it so I might as well do it!

I work right near the bristol AFCO. Every other day I see the 'arty' type people protesting. I want to go up and beat them my globe and laurel!!
They had signs saying 'beep your horn for peace!'
What would their solution to the war be?

Wholley,
The student will be here soon to rape that comment on students!
What is it with them? Do they think that people are going to pay attention to them?

I usually find a swift kick to the cnut does the trick!!!! (Joke for same reason as Scouse)

Time wasters, all of them!! Best to ignore and walk away as you are wasting your own time and energy on ignorance!!

You'll soon realise when you get in it's not just 'Arty' types as you put it....Most of the civilian population hate you, especially when you turn up and start nicking the local chicks

You get used to it though 8)

The next time you meet this 'person' confront with her lack of beauty. Then agree to disagree. She doesn't agree with certain military action and you don't agree that people with her lack of looks and personality should be allowed out in public.

Her face will go red and perhaps she might shut the FVCK up.

You should have slapped her boyfriend for allowing her to speak.

Kidding.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, thoroughly used, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming... 'F*ck, what a trip!'

People shouldn't let it bother them. The efforts of soldiers are not made any less meaningful by a few self-centred ignorant hamshanks.

Try living in Holland. Over here EVERYONE is anti-armed forces. If you join the armed forces it's because you couldn't make it in civillian life, so they say. Politicians here are very hesitant on deploying our forces anywhere. The Dutch army suffered its first fatality in Iraq last monday and immediately everybody starts calling "pull them out!". Fortunately we have a bit more of a right wing government here now so it probably won't happen. Sure wish I was born in Britain or America sometimes, there's a lot more respect for the Armed Forces there I think.
