After years of watching this country giving slackers and criminals an easy time, the past couple of days have been the nail in the coffin.
A man (an illegal immigrant) knocks over a nine year old boy with a car, killing him, and flees the scene. He is arrested, and is found to have no licence, or any other documentation, plus he's in possession of a fake passport. Yesterday he was sentenced to 2 years in prison, of which he'll probably serve half, maybe a bit more. Rightly, the boy's family are outraged, just as I would be if it was my kid. Apparantly, the Police could not prove dangerous driving, which could have increased the sentence!
Today, on the news, Maxine Carr is applying for early release into an electronic tagging scheme. This is a woman who covered for the murderer of 2 young girls, who died in horrific circumstances! The news report mentioned that newspapers were already queing up for her story. If that woman makes a single penny out of this, then this country really has reached the depths of injustice.
What really gets gets me is that whilst these events are happening, joe public is getting stung for £80 if you don't pay your car tax on time, or £1000 if you don't have TV licence, plus we have the 'Big Brother' TV adverts .
The government only seems to be interested in making money out of us, however when we, the public, want justice for the crimes commited against us, we're really let down.
Still, only 4 more years to do in the mob, then I'm off to somewhere warm and sunny, before it really gets me down!!

Unfortunately this highlights our outdated Road Traffic legislation. This man was I believe convicted for failing in his drivers duties in a collision of stopping, remaining and reporting. It is clear that his driving contained an element of carlessness, however there is no offence of careless driving causing death, so his drivers duties offences are really, according to the law the worst crime he committed. For him to be convicted of the greater offence of dangerous driving causing death, it has to be proved to the criminal standard he was dangerous, and that is the problem. Police could not prove that, not due to a poor investigation, or lack of witnesses, but simply that his driving did not meet the criteria to be classed as "dangerous" according to the law. The fact that he was speeding was certainly a contributing factor, and this should be considered by all those, and in my experience there is probably a majority of drivers who think this, that when speeders are prosecuted it is somehow petty and simply a money making scheme. Speeding is a real threat to our safety, that should and is detected and prosecuted. This is why this man has been given a derisory sentence for his crimes, as under the law it is the manner of driving that determines the charge, not the effects of this driving. If the public outcry at this sentence was to result in a change in the law, I think it would have to be accompanied by a major shift in public's attitudes, as on the one hand they want to sentence speeding drivers who, due to their use of speed kill children, to very long sentences but yet on the other hand whinge ceaselessly when Police try to prevent these situations from occuring by being pro-active and tackling speeding by education, calming measures, reduced limits in specific areas, and ultimately prosecuting speeders.
Something has to change, clearly, but I would caution the public about demanding draconian measures, as these are great until it is YOU that is on the receiving end of them, then listen to the whingeing that is done.

I say just chuck him out the country now, why should he be a drain on our services even while he's in prison. Also, tatoo something on his forehead in case he tries to get back in!
As for Maxine Carr, whats she going to do if she is released. She wont be able to go anywhere or do anything without people hounding her. Shes not going to really benifit from it.

Worst of it is each & every one of us has, are or will be defending this country when it's full of the gutless politicians, do-gooder f*ckwits & the rejects of other countries. There needs to be a stand for common sense really soon because in my opinion the country is going beyond the ability to recover shortly.
Makes me sick.
I cant even comment further cos i feel a particularly nasty rant coming on!

Spannerman, how about five years of a good hard military dictatorship?????????? Give them a few years to sort this country out and kick out all the parasites.
All this government is doing is giving the country away; what they aren't giving to the EU they are giving to bogus asylum seekers and illegal immigrants. Latest decision passed down by the law lords yesterday fives asyl;um seekers the right to demand to be housed in any part of the UK they like and the local council have to give in to their demands. You as a born and bred English just try this and see what the answer is!!!!!!!!
None of the assholes in government care one fig for the indigenous population.
It's our own fault because it's a case of the majority being governed by the minority. I just hope that all the people who voted them into office are the ones that are suffering most.
Soapbox now neatly stowed away

If a race or asylum-seeker's riot took place in areas like Islington, caused casualties to the residents and inflicted colossal property damage, the lefty star chamber that sets the agenda for your once-great country might be brought down to reality.

'Reports that say that something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns — the ones we don't know we don't know.'

I'd like to apologize for the extremity of my statement. It was a bit over the top.If a race or asylum-seeker's riot took place in areas like Islington, caused casualties to the residents and inflicted colossal property damage, the lefty star chamber that sets the agenda for your once-great country might be brought down to reality.
However, we who work for a modest living are unhappy with so many decisions that are made, and we feel as if we have absolutely no control no matter whom we elect to office.
Rising standards of living in Western Countries and enormous opportunities after World War 2 meant that many of the great minds went into business.
Politics, government, and the public sector, particularly law and education, appear to have become a magnet for Marxists, who seek this mystical egalitarian society at any price, as long as they have a high salary and yet can afford to live in wealthy areas next door to right wing executives. I wonder what their rationale is?
A leftist teacher (I am a teacher who's secretly right wing) told me with an innocent look, "if judges were to live on low salaries and in crime-ridden areas, their decision-making process would be tainted by passion, and we cannot allow that to happen."
Dispassionate analysis and sober second thought is what got developed countries into the state we complain about today. We need leaders and we need people of action.
Cliche but true.

Would you rather they were just put to death?
That is a waste of time and money, now I know your going to say what the hell if he's dead he doesn't cost us money. But look at the statistics
it costs about $500,000 US dollars to put someone in jail for life. But it actually costs about $4 million dollars to execute someone in the US because of endless appeals. And don't forget that some people sit on Death row for 30 years before someone flips the switch. What we need our those islands out in the pacific like that movie Papineau(?) I think where you basically die away from eyes of the public and press.

If a man has nothing he is willing to die for then he isn't fit to live.
Papillon! - dont need the islands, just keep them in the solitary confinement for a year at a time with little food. Cheap and effective.
Labour camps are needed - prisoners basically get a free ride. Make thm work harder than ever before.
Someone once said to me that they believed that prisoners should be forced to join the army - thats the last thing that should happen.

i am, unfortunatly, at the recieving end of the pathetic ELS (english legal system) and the ridiculous jury system!
a year and 3 months ago, i was on the p*ss with some freinds, pre-booked a local taxi frim and come the end of the night, left our club and went to the taxi pickup point.
got in the taxi, argument brewed, taxi driver dint beleive we pre booked dispite us waving lots of money at him.
we got out, walked away, but he got out and called as w*ankers.
another argument brewed - and to cut a long story short he ran me over .... not once .... not twice .... but three times.
thats no joke, he put me in hospital, broken arm, smashed up head, tyre burns etc and i was a mess.
the result - because the jury felt sorry for him, 55 yr old being hounded by "youths" he was acquited of gbh with intent. i say the jury felt sorry because all the evidence and 15 odd witnesses said so.
i can feel all you readers almost agreeing that we MUST have been in the wrong, cus no guy in his right mind would get out of his safe car, in the middle of bristol city centre calling a group of p*ssed up lads w*nkers!
my family, local press, myself, and more than all my mum were outraged!
yet another discrace to put on the tally of the legal system.
i bet all thse people who make the speeding adverts etc speed themselves!
