The time has come in my life when its time to make the choice of which career path to choose.
People at home(Ausralia) often ask me why i have chosen to try for the RM and not for the more well known home team 4RAR. Well there were a couple of reasons why i chose the Royal Marines(mind you i still have to try out and pass)the main reason was i felt that they offer more possiblities with there training and also beacuse one can try out for the RM slighlty more direct than 4RAR.
Although thats enough about my life story what iam really intrested in is what happens after the 1st stages of training? because in Australia on would go through traning for the specific job which HE/SHe wishes to do, is it the same with the Royal Marines?
Feedback and thoughts much appricated. oh and also what would be the best time of year to try out??
Thanks everyone

Yep, after the first 30 weeks of training and you've passed out as a qualified marine commando then you go and do your specialised training. That's what they told me down the AFCO anyway. Try doing a search, i'm sure you'll find tons of information.

In the marines you don't choose yor specification until you have done your training. The guy at the AFCO told me not to say what I might want to be during my training because if you say something and there is an opening you will be put straight in after your training. Even if you change your mind on what you want to be you have to go with your original decision for at least 3 years.
Started recruit training 5th July

Everest, you don't have to choose your trade in the Marines straight away, some marines stay GD for their 22, so at least you'll have some breathing space. My advice would be to speak to the branch advisor at CTC (when you get there) he is a very approachable person if you go to him with intelligent questions.
As for when the best time to join is ... well you pass your PRMC then they Tell You when you are starting your training lol, winter is bad because you freeze out on the moors and summer is bad because you get hot lol
But then it's 30/32 Weeks training so I'm sure you'll get both pissed on and nicely roasted
But I'm assured it's all good fun and you'll have a great time when ever you do your training

Kat,
Quite right. Although I started at Deal in August (Deal + long time ago) it was January by the time we got to Lympstone And 1962/63 was a baaad winter). initially we were breaking ice on the tank and scraping hoar frost off the high obstacles on the bottom field, by the time we were doing the commando test week they were issuing us with salt pills to replace that lost through sweating ( I know you ladies just glow, but we were sweating cobs) in the heat (and that was at the end of April!)
