hello,
i am jason and was in the T.A infantry for about a year in 95.
i joined the regulars in 2001 (R.E.M.E) at age 31, they really pulled the stops out to get me signed up for 22 years as a V.M. i got myself fit and prepared for training, then witnessed a road traffic accident and tried to save a blokes life unsuccessfully.i thought i could just drink it away and forget it, 2 weeks later i started training at A.T.R pirbright.
things were ok for a couple of days and then i lost it. my behaviour detiriorated badly and i was sent to Ward 6, Duchess of kents psychiatric hospital, catterick for 2 days R+R. 4 months later i was released(admin discharged) and given the diagnosis Paranoid Schizophrenia.
living with schizophrenia is hard, but im slowly recovering and getting back to a reasonably normal life.
(when i look back i think i've had SZ for 10 years or more and didnt realise it.)
the staff at DKPH were tremendous and got me back to a form of reality with high doses of medication and support. i dont recieve any support from the army now and am a bit lost.
has any body else here dealt with DKPH?or have a similar story?
thanks
jason
